There are a lot of fan doujins (not talking about porn, but like spinoff series) for sale online but they don't have much value to say English only speakers like myself. On the other hand, it seems that it is discouraged to buy works and upload them here for translation. Would it be a possibility to incorporate a kind of locked paid section where one could upload works by an author, but the only way to access is paying which goes to the author and possibly a fee to the translator? Or maybe we scan and translate it on a locked archive here, but the only people who can access are those who demonstrate proof of buying an original copy?
I can see a lot of legal hurdles with this, but considering how comprehensive Danbooru is and that apparently asian artists are aware of this site, I think it has a possibility of working. Especially since many artists posts samples on their pixivs which may be popular on this site and I think some people would be willing to pay for access to the full version of a series they followed for a long time, consequentially opening a broader audience for the author just like how translated subs for virtual youtubers expanded their popularity.
The biggest issue aside from negotiating permission from artists that I can see is too much work for moderators, but I don't know if someone can think of a simpler system that meshes better with how the site already operates.
Just throwing the idea out there. I assume I am not the first to think of it and it is not done because there is an issue with implementing this kind of service, but I am still curious. Seems a waste that doujins are lost when there are people willing to pay for them if translated.
