does prepaid debit cards work on upgrading an account?

If it has a credit-card-like number and has the logo of one of the big, international credit card companies (Visa, Mastercard, etc) on it, it should work, no matter if it’s an actual credit card, debit card or prepaid debit card.
Keep in mind that if it’s a prepaid debit card, you need to have enough on it to cover not only the actual account upgrade cost but also any card payment fees, especially if your card’s currency isn’t US dollar and you need to pay exchange fees.
I don't recall what country the card processing system Albert uses resides in, but it's something to keep in mind. Many prepaid and gift cards restrict their spending to the country of origin, which is annoying for instance when a game company puts their online shop "in" a tax haven like Cypress...
