Discussion about "lazy" tagging and usage of tagme (Formerly: Reducing tagme postings)

Posted under General

I salute you all for your hard work reducing the tagme posts to this extent.
Still, I don't think the tag should be removed. I for instance use them quite a lot because as much as I try tagging what I can see and know in the posts I've uploaded, I just know there must be some other tags amiss and I need other keen eyes to check what else isn't tagged.

I'm going to have to be a devil's advocate for moment here and point out a lot of the posts that tagme was removed from still have missing tags.

Just for example post #2339692 is missing sleeve, background, footwear tags as well as any tags for the suits being worn. post #2281724 is lacking any tags for the men, including even the basic *boys tags.

If just these two are any indication it feels like people have been too eager to remove tagme without assuring it's purpose was completely fulfilled.

Instead of complaining: Why not add them yourself :3? If you have pointed them out, then ok.
But you know, this is such a great amount, there tend to be missing something^^.

And yes, the secong one is tagged. There is missing the helmet tag, indeed.
And the multiple boys tag is also there. The amount is pretty unclear (at least for me). Maybe there are four or five.

Just wanted to point out that while it's great that the generalized tagme posts have been tagged, the specific tagme posts still require a lot of attention. I'm speaking of course of all of the *_request tags, minus the translation request and commentary request tags (since those require knowledge of a foreign language and a willingness to translate them).

These specific tag requests are of course more difficult since they require a certain set of knowledge for each post in question. Additionally, some requests may never be fulfilled, such as artist request or source request since the original image is no longer hosted by the original artist on the Internet or the knowledge of who the artist is has been lost.

A whole load (as in probably an outright majority) of copyright request and character request tag uses seem to be for original characters that aren't specifically stated as being such. Those can also join the "probably never going to be fulfilled" grouping as noone can be completely certain that they aren't just some character they've not personally encountered before.

Then again there's about 12k things under character_request -copyright_request of which the majority could probably be filled.

I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to make sure that before anyone removes tagme from a post that they're absolutely sure they've tagged everything major. There's no shame in tagging a post and leaving the tagme just in case.

Personally, I feel that any of those tags are far from 'major'. Even in the 2nd image, you only really see 1 guy and a bunch of legs which could be construed as male but rather deviates from the 'tag what you see', not to mention they aren't the focal point of the image.

Popping in to say, feel free to let me or other Moderators/Admins know if you see users extensively abusing tagme (that is, tagging uploads only with tagme and very few or no other tags) and haven't responded to previous warnings, and we can take a more direct approach with them.

I've given feedback to some users or written some PMs and the behavior seems to have changed by those who I contacted directly.

This isn't just about those two posts. I've gone through a lot of posts I've personally put tagme on while adding specific tags and I'm seeing that tagme is being removed without any attempt to actually tag the post.

post #2284889, post #503283, post #503069, post #496048, post #495480, post #467723, post #454062, post #452924, post #449404 are all prime examples.

This isn't fixing the problem, this is sweeping it under the rug. Tagme serves an important clerical purpose on the site and this is no different than if someone were to remove translation request from posts without adding a translation.

The posts have to be tagged "reasonably".
They are reasonably tagged. They have few tags, but there are a lot of them, especially if they are pretty old the tagging can step back a bit. So I didn't saw a real reason to tag them since they already had a good amount.
On the other hand: You added tagme twice, pointing out, that there was apparantly no attempt: Why not add tags yourself? You can add tagme, but not other tags? Meh.

So, tagged. But seriously. Although it was quite a mass I was able to add, it feels somehow...pointless to tag those since they already had enough tags (they were already described).

Say... do we have a mechanism for tracking how often Tagme is used by user? I just saw a bunch of posts by Echelll in the last 20 minutes which had a pool, character tags, and artist namefilled in, but then they used Tagme to avoid tagging anything despite having three tags and in the first post of the pool, tagging most of the visible characters.

Just wondering, as it's hard to reduce the number of Tagme posts if users develop a habit of using it in place of requesting help in the forums or posting with the appropriate *_request tag.

Don't know. I do keep track of those people, though and remind them when I feel that they are misusing the tag which lead to either a direct neutral feedback or mods are contacted (Apollyon offered his help here for example).

It's not that hard to reduce the tag, though.
I just don't like both things: There was a post around some years ago which was tagged pretty well. I didn't see where I could possible add something except some minor details. I don't think that is the right way to use this tag. This counts also for people who adds that tag on every of their uploads because it's some kind of ritual, although the post is detailed tagged^^. But that isn't the case anymore luckily.
To other thing are comics. And that in general. They is pretty much going on and too much to spot. It's a bit annoying, but needs also to be done.

Hi there, Sorry about the tagme spam, I'm slowly going through the posts as I tag them, it takes a while to get everything in place.

I'm fairly new to uploading here but play quite a bit of Kancolle, so while I can tag characters pretty accurately, I'm not very good at the other sections.

The fact that I'm trying to clear a backlog of this comic isn't really helping things either, (and from what I've read, comics are a headache).

Any help and tips would really be great, thanks!
