Well, I can't speak for England proper, but in New Zealand, you go to the cinema to see a film. (Though it's not like we don't use the term movie either)

They are effective but in an unintended way. Now we have people talking about and advertising their products for free. Same applies to backmasking. Who would have tough the only useful purpose from hiding things is they became viral since ten.

Depending on how prevalent digital projection is in any given area (there are no public companies in my area that offer traditional projection, for instance), the term 'film' is becoming a much less accurate descriptor since that is no longer the medium.
