Indeed, 11 years after her first appearance, Reisen finally becomes a fully fledged playable character (not counting PoFF and the fighting games). Given the name of the new game and the cover with Reimu pounding mochi, it'd be a crime not to give her a spot in the limelight after so long. Which means, no more "useless little rabbit, only good for her sex appeal" bullshit for her!

Sadly, I'm certain you underestimate the fanbase's bullshit. Still, as one of my favourite characters, this is amazing news and I really hope you're right.
The great question... what is the boss in the screenshots?, is a big mystery
Probably another moon rabbit. Or Iku, but i doubt she has something to do with this. I actually wonder if most of the game will be set on the Moon or in Gensokyo. And if one of the Watatsuki will be there.
On a side note, that gun seems to come out from a magical girl show.
One of the screenshots shows what looks like an enemy rabbit girl. It could be only a placeholder, though.
I hear talk about people thinking the printworks princesses are going to be in this, but I doubt it. If Mima hasn't even shown up yet in the windows era I can't see Zun putting them in the main games.

Oh, I would love it if the Watatsuki sisters would appear in TH15. The amount of salt would be endless.

I dunno, he might just have said that to shut the fans up, because of all the outrage surrounding the Watatsukis. Or he did it just to troll fans.
I bet a certain time manipulating maid out there in a particular scarlet mansion is currently fuming.
Good job Reisen!
Really, the reason a character is playable depends if the event affects them, their location, or mistresses/gods. Although there is nothing really known about the plot so far, I would be willing to guess Reisen is involved as this is very likely related to the Lunar Capital (the profile for Reisen shown in the screenshot also says something along the lines of "the best way to fight moon technology is with moon technology") and as for Sanae, Kanako and Suwako probably found about the god that the Lunarians sealed in the Moriya Shrine, and send Sanae to go vent their frustration. Sakuya only went to the moon in SSiB because Remilia wanted to go and try and "take over" and as for Youmu, she was not really involved, although Yukari and Yuyuko wanted to steal (tea I think?) from the Lunarians, so that was the only reason Youmu went to the moon. Besides, I thought DDC would satiate the Sakuya need. I love Sakuya, but really, she does not need to constantly be playable.

/big rant
You completely went overboard on a deliberate joke. I am filled with disappointment.
Also if you didn't notice I wasn't being sarcastic, perhaps tone does not convey very well over the internet, because on my personal board Reisen ranks in the top 10 whilst Sakuya ranks in the bottom 10.
Honestly, a harmless opinion and joke these days, can't seem to go by without coming under 3 different types of scrutiny.
Eirin's IN profile says that she is very surprised to see Sakuya, but noone other than herself knows why.
Edit: Apparently, in the wiki there's also a quote from ZUN saying that "if the relation between Eirin and Sakuya was revealed, all the games would be reduced to one". I don't know from where this comes from, but as it is worded, it sounds a REALLY huge thing.
Edit 2: Turns out the quote was actually fake and made up by someone that misunderstood something.

Considering we still get PAD-chief and Useless China jokes in 2015 (despite both being thoroughly driven into the ground), you're probably right.
Doesn't help Reisen lives with one of the more notorious trolls in Gensokyo.

They're not going to. They were made deliberately cheater-tier in SSiB because they would be impossible to defeat in the games, if ZUN is to be taken seriously about the matter. Not to say anything about Toyohime's combat capability, though she seemed deathly calm, composed, and confident that if Yukari challenged her, she'd be the one dealing out one-sided beatings, not Yukari. Considering how familiar with Yukari she already was before that, it's pretty telling how much worse people would have complained if BOTH sisters' potential battle prowess had been depicted, rather than just Yorihime's.
tl;dr, they're always going to be too strong for the games and if they ever do appear, it'll be in an assist-type spell card like with Miko at the most. They'll probably get mentioned in the story at some point but I wouldn't expect anything beyond that.

Maybe they will be extra stage bosses that will go "easy on her".
Well, wasn't that ZUN's or whoever-made-that-statement's excuse for not putting Mokou and Kaguya into the previous fighting game? Unless there's a special reason, she's in this game now, so we can at least hold hope for the others as well, no?

An idea but still a serious long shot.

It was ZUN, yes, but his reasoning for not having them in the fighting game he wanted them in was because he didn't have the time to balance their movesets to compensate for their power. They were previous bosses, whereas the Watatsukis were, again, made deliberately overpowered specifically because they weren't planned for inclusion in the games. There is no compensating for their power, at least for a while yet, because they're too powerful. It would make more sense to have them as components in an "assist"-type spell card as I said, so if we see them beyond cameos/story mentions it'll probably be like that.
Yorihime played by spell card rules in SSiB and neutralized every single spell card thrown at her, even cutting Final Spark in half and reflecting Double Spark. Remilia WAS able to do some visible damage before actually using spell cards, so it seems attacking her the old fashioned way works as long as you have the speed and power for it, but again, spell cards and danmaku were/are pretty literally useless against her. Again, Toyohime's capabilities weren't fully shown apart from her raw ability (and that was in another print work, where it was used in a more... direct and immediate fashion), but if ZUN still deems her too powerful, then she's at least as strong as her sister if not stronger, abilities notwithstanding. He does at least want to have the sisters in more manga works, which I'm looking forward to if he follows through.

I don't know what you have read, but Toyohime didn't show anything other than connecting the Earth and the Moon. If you mean when she intercepted Ran and Yukari, it was still SSiB and they were just talking. Also, ZUN said that Yorihime was too powerful to be a boss, as she has basically countless techniques and becomes stronger depending on the god she summons, but nothing of the sort was said about Toyohime. As i said some time ago, we can't even be sure of Toyohime being actually stronger than Yukari, as Yukari herself wasn't there to fight, but purposedly let Toyohime capture her to make her believe that she was the actual invasor, and let Yuyuko pass undetected.
Talking about the game, i was thinking that if there's really going to be a stage on the Moon, they'd need a way to reach it. Since i doubt they have the time to build another rocket, i would expect Yukari as a boss, gapping them there after the battle. Stage 3 would be perfect, as it would also mark the "border" between the first half of the game and the second. Still, the "legacy" on the title might indicate the incident is something only remotely related to the Moon, but still in Gensokyo (maybe another exiled lunarian, or that god trapped in the Moriya shrine).

Hmm, I suppose I was reading too much into the last interview, having thought that if he didn't want Yorihime to be in the games, he wouldn't want Toyohime to be in them, either, given that except for extreme circumstances the sisters like to stay close to each other. Looking again he didn't say anything about keeping Toyohime out of the games but it's still unlikely we'll see her. It was in CiLR chapter 3 where she demonstrated a more direct application of her power, changing the part of the moon she was in from the fantastic version to the scientific version and removing the atmosphere to kill the crow scout Yukari had sent up there (standing in that environment seems to affirm to me that she's immortal and thus the person she's based on, rather than JUST being based on her).
But about Toyohime's superiority, again, she was fully confident that she could have beaten Yukari if challenged. She's already familiar with Yukari and Yukari implied before that the sisters were ultimately what thwarted the first invasion. Whether or not she'd directly confronted just one of the sisters (and if so, which one) or both of them remains to be told, of course...

That does sound like something ZUN would do. I like it.
