If "continent" is the key word, I'd say Charlemagne instead, I mean sure his scale of dominance is smaller than Genghis Khan, but Europe still is a continent alright.
Not to mention rainbow sword, which actually corresponds to the description of Joyeuse: 'it's color changes thirty times a day'.
I don't remember Genghis Khan my ancestor wielding a rainbow sword and if my memory serves me right his sword doesn't have any corresponding legends. Charlemagne is indeed a plausible candidate. Also there is a possibility that she could be Attila the Hun. However as azurelorochi stated the rainbow sword seems to be a dead giveaway.
