Baldur's Gate 3 companion names

Posted under Tags

BUR #25036 is pending approval.

create alias shadowheart_(baldur's_gate) -> shadowheart
create alias wyll_(baldur's_gate) -> wyll_ravengard
create alias gale_(baldur's_gate) -> gale_of_waterdeep

There's no ambiguity with Shadowheart. Wyll and Gale have their names/titles known from early one. It's disproportionately irritating to me how those three are the only companions with qualifiers.

Wyll is likely a no-go because his Duke connection is not meant to be known from the start and might fall under spoilers, agree with the other two.

I feel like I remember learning his surname and basic backstory pretty early on though? I feel like I learned it near the end of act 1 by just talking to him and going through his dialogue options. I could be wrong though, and it's not exactly easy to double check without booting the game up (I tried >_>)
Also his wiki page here does state that he was nobility, so it's either safe or that little point should be removed.

Yeah, it's very early on, but the official character introductions still make a point not to mention it. I don't personally consider it much of a spoiler, but I think I've seen surnames omitted for less on here.

You learn Wyll is Ulder's son at about the same time you hear about Ulder to begin with. And unless you're already significantly familiar with the Forgotten Realms setting, you've never heard of Ravengard before anyway, so there's nothing to spoil to begin with.

Why would we use "Gale of Waterdeep" instead of Gale Dekarios for a full name? IIRC the last name doesn't get dropped until the second act of the game but it's in no way relevant to the plot, so I can't think of any reason not to use it.

He introduces himself as Gale of Waterdeep.
