VRChat Copytag

Posted under Tags

The VRChat copytag seems to be fairly useless. It's being slapped onto random commissions of people's custom avatars, such as post #4699127 and post #4704679. The issue with this is that they sometimes get both original + vrchat and sometimes they instead only get vrchat. Further, a lot of them are indie virtual youtubers that get tagged with it.

Should custom models and vtubers really be getting tagged with the copytag? It'd be akin to tagging a twitch streamer with twitch.tv. Which, after doing a quick check, is something that is actually happening. I don't think they should.

I agree with Ver here, that is absolutely the perfect opportunity for them to be tagged with a chartag and a more appropriate copytag, whether it be original or indie Virtual YouTubers. It's not as if Danbooru has cheaped out on chartags, there's plenty of chartags with hardly few posts in 'em. Really, at best, you could argue that you're using VRChat as a context clue copytag like how Virtual YouTuber aids in getting chartags made for otherwise ignored posts, but unlike that tag, those associated with VRChat aren't restricted to it and may very well be content creators or even VTubers themselves, muddying the waters of what the heck the tag is supposed to accomplish now.

As for the VRChat copytag in general, it should be more akin to twitch.tv, wherein it is used more for references and things that are more strictly associated with it (i.e. not branching out much beyond it, ala Koume, a model made for VRChat, and how that model really only goes beyond to VR Beat Saber). If need be, for people/characters with simpler names, something like *_(vr) at the end would probably suffice, as long as there isn't another person with the same name.
