Medium breasts are also known as "average breasts"

EDIT: The tag alias medium_breasts -> average_breasts (forum #141453) has been rejected by @Hillside_Moose.

What may be considered average to one person may be entirely different to another. I disagree with this alias.

When medium_breasts was created via the discussion in topic #12825, they opted to go with "medium" and to discard average_breasts

I don't know if the explicit reasoning is in the thread, but "average", outside of mathematical contexts, often refers to a judgment of quality (e.g. "The actors put on an average performance").

average_sized_breasts sounds like a more reasonable alias, but that still seems more subjective than just "medium", though technically I suppose those words might mean the same thing in a strictly size-based context. One might argue that, at least in one interpretation of the word, the numerical average actually lands in the realm of large_breasts, since huge_breasts and gigantic_breasts would significantly raise the average.

I think average_sized_breasts might be worth considering/discussing a little bit more, but average_breasts doesn't seem specific enough to be an alias to me.

No, anything with “average” in it is a bad idea because it implies a mathematical average of some sample group. Nobody calculated such an average and what would the sample group be? IRL women? All female characters on Danbooru? The theoretical average between what the flat chest and gigantic breasts tags have to offer? (No, definitely not the latter one.)

medium breasts is a good name because the arbitrarily defined (in topic #12825) “medium” sits between the equally arbitrarily defined “small” and “large”. It’s the same as with clothing sizes: M(edium) is between S(mall) and L(arge) (and XS and XL, but you get the idea). Have fun trying to find a size A(verage) shirt in a store. :)

disagree, medium_breasts already cover breasts that are often larger than the real life average so the term would barely make sense.

Same for if you have an anime where the average breast size is small or flat and one busty character stands out to then go call them "average" breasts? Or the opposite, D cups in Eiken where everyone is large, huge or gigantic?

also "average breasts" kind of already exist as a tagging consideration, namely whether you use the alternate_breast_size tag or not, relative to the established character
