Would normally post in the "More Artist Aliases" topic, but this case might be special, because the name "same" seems very ambigious.
So an alias might be more destructive in this case and we should rather go with a mass update.

Just put "same" in as an other name; the saved searches should also (hopefully) update, level with the tag. Then just write a wikipage for same pointing to the new artist tag instead of doing the alias.

For some reason, this caused a LOT of my saved searches to suddenly have "sameha_ikuya" in them, and I have no idea why.

Because saved searches are automatically updated, be it via alias or mass update.
Also that's why such ambiguous names are not good for the site.

Come to think of it, the saved searches of mine that got "sameha_ikuya" in them all had Kirisame_Marisa in them too. It seems every search with the four letters "same" in them were mass updated by this.

Oh hell.

Is that how it was coded to work? I thought exact matches we're the only ones that were changed.
