Are sword components taggable?

Posted under Tags

Came across Koshirae doing some wiki editing, and it along with a dozen of its component pages seem to be unnecessarily specific. I went ahead and deleted all of the wikis that had zero posts. However, should the rest be deleted and the tags nuked as well?

I'm not a sword aficionado, but it seems like the same degree of fidelity as if you were to also tag a gun with barrel, trigger, handle, magazine, sight, chamber, etc.

I can see that if the sword components are by themselves then they would be taggable, otherwise the object should only be tagged as the type of sword it is. What do others think though?

I'll reiterate my question from forum #135561:

...do we really want to start down the road of obsessively tagging such minor details as individual sword components?

My answer is an emphatic no, but in the spirit of fairness, I'll ping @qamaz so they have an opportunity to argue in defense of these tags.

I'am tired or arguing with everyone. Do as you want. My point was to introduce broad masses to Japan tradition and culture and culture specific objects through observing a lot of visual materials (images). I find it good, if watching lewd images here will sparkle interest in someone in other people culture and having easily available wiki with proper explanation will help to promote such interest.

Nope.
This is a forum after all.

Regarding this topic: Maybe the problem is that it is extremely specific.
Will it serve any purpose, though. Won't you find those things with a simple sword search? Not to mention that the more specific tags get the higher the chance of abuse.

Not what this site, but especially not what the wikis are for. They're to assist with tagging...period. Anything beyond that needs to be a link to another site.

The tags themselves are overly specific and not worth having IMO, unless of course they are shown by themselves or the image places an emphasis on those components. However, none of the currently tagged images seem to meet that standard.
