Cosplay is not "alternate_costume"

Feels like the cosplay tag is irreparably poisoned with the alternate costume tag (alternate_costume *_(cosplay)).

Also, bikini alternate_costume.

Help?

I think bikini alternate_costume is a valid combination. I mean, the transition between normal, everyday clothing of a certain character -> bikini/swimsuit is already guarantees the tag alternate costume.

As for the first one, I agree that cosplay =//= alternate costume. Cosplay tag already covers every subject of the said pic (with cosplay), even without alternate costume.

While untagging I noticed that izayoi sakuya (cosplay) tags often come coupled with enmaided, which implies alternate costume. Should enmaided get removed too?

I think enmaided is strictly used only when a character wears a plain maid costume without any references to other copyright. So I think enmaided should be removed from izayoi sakuya (cosplay pictures.

I use the cosplay tag nearly never. I also didn't use the alternate costume tag much until recently...
But I think it's better to keep the two tags seperate from each other. Otherwise, the alternate costume tag (68k tag count) will be flooded with cosplay (33k tag count).
But I wouldn't use those tags together, because "cosplay" always says that the character wears another costume. But not something generic like a school uniform or a wedding dress. Instead they are wearing something worn by another character. I think there is distinction enough.

See topic #12842 for prior discussions on the alternate costume tag...
See topic #7514 on implication attempt for Sakuya_Izayoi_(cosplay) -> enmaided...
See topic #3912 for when the enmaided tag and implications were created...

I do agree that cosplay != alternate costume.

As far as enmaided goes, I'd say that it only applies to non-costume switch//non-cosplay situations, except when cosplay//costume switch does not involve the enmaided character.

Regarding bikini alternate_costume, this appears to be explicitly permitted by alternate costume's definition, at least in the case of game characters:

For a game character, this is a costume other than the standard one that can be unlocked within the game.

Thus, post #2273143 and post #2457366 are tagged alternate costume despite being official designs. I wouldn't blame anyone for trying to extend this rule to non-game characters wearing canonical swimsuits, unless the swimsuit is their default outfit.

The grammar in the wiki is ambiguous, it can be interpreted a either "a costume (other than the standard one that can be unlocked within the game)" or "a costume (other than the standard one) that can be unlocked within the game". Should be reworded.
