Comic definition and usage

Posted under Tags

With the current definition of the tag, only images that have sequential imaging qualify for the tag, but artists on pixiv tend to utilize the image collection feature to separate their comic frames, which end up getting treated as non-comics here (but are still tagged as comics by the artists themselves and act as comics in usage). Also, the requirement that something sequential or potentially paneling be present to qualify for the tag seems to ignore that a comic can exist in a single panel form (there have been plenty of newspaper comics that have only used a single panel). This would seem that our current definition and usage of the tag is therefore a bit off, or that our tag is misnamed.

This is for the benefit of another user, as they questioned our current usage for the comic tag. The user said his English wasn't good enough to hold a discussion (relying on google translator as a crutch apparently) and that he likewise didn't visit the forum frequently, but still wanted to voice his issue with our usage of the tag.

I'm not disagreeing, that's just what the "rules" say.

In terms of the use of comic, I'm kinda split. Objectively, it should only be on a post that is a comic singly. However, for being useful, it should be on posts belonging to a plot. I could probably argue with myself to death on it.

I'm against lumping sequencing images into comic. That's what pools and parents are for. You start calling any sequence a comic, suddenly a quarter of the site are comics, which is retarded.

Of course there are some borderline examples such as post #1945342 and post #1944464 where it's apparent it's part of a comic series due to the visual cues such as paneling and page numbers. Calling things like post #1944633 and post #1944493 comics is unacceptable.

I highly doubt that's what renim was referring to when he said single panel comics. He was more likely talking about something like pool #9705 where each panel is a static image but it's still a coherent story, or comic per say, across all the images.

We already decided years ago that every page of a comic should be tagged as such when we were either discussing covers or blank pages so I'm not what arguing against post #1944493 is going to accomplish.

It has no title or any cover page elements.

I'm also not sure what post #1944633 has to do with anything.

The uploader was persistent in tagging it comic as well as post #1944493, which is why we have this thread to begin with. Language barrier or not, I'm not sure he even knows what a comic is, which is why he was tagging it on basically anything with text.

Oh, since you're all talking about comics, I'd like to be sure so I can do things properly next time I upload some.

When it comes to a manga with about 2 or 3 pages only, should I use the parent-child relationship or create a pool?
