Tag alias: rainbow_mika -> nanakawa_mika

Posted under Tags

Judging by the number of Google results (90k for Rainbow Mika, 2k for Nanakawa Mika), and your own use of the word "apparently", it would appear that "Rainbow Mika" is the name that she's known by to the majority of people, instead of her real name.

So why not reverse the alias so that her real name points to the name that's actually used?

create alias nanakawa_mika -> rainbow_mika

For the same reason "Lili" points to Emilie de Rochefort - canon takes precedence

Are you sure about that? I've never heard of names that are never used taking precedence over the actually used names. And the only discussion on the Emilie tag I could find was topic #2869, but it looks like the exact opposite of what you're suggesting was established in that thread:

Calling for an emilie -> lili_(tekken) alias because this is the third fucking time this thread has been made and both of the first two times it was not ignored but not done because IT IS NOT USED IN THE GAMES.

If Log is right then it sounds like aliasing the Emile name to lili_(tekken) is indeed the best way to go. But looking at this thread and the other, Kikimaru and Log seem to be the only ones familiar with the franchise (and have conflicting opinions) so, uh...?

Even the japanese wikipedia lists her name as simply Lili.

Where are you getting this "we must always use the character's real name" thing from, exactly?

Experience?

I don't think that counts for anything unless you can give a reason why you think doing it that way is beneficial.

On the contrary, I think making a tag be a name that no one really uses is just confusing and doesn't have much benefit. Tag names should aim to be intuitive, so that someone can look at the name of the tag and know what it's for.

Maybe a scrollover pop-up that spits out non-spoilery alternate/common names...

Kinda torn on usability versus technicality, though that there's an avoidance of names spoilers taking precedence could through the latter into question (ex: Lightning Farron, though by a "most commonly used name" measure, the main should be "lightning_(ff13)").

I prefer the proper name over nicknames, though, especially if it's just a shortening of the proper given name.

There's no drop-dead solid rule regarding real name vs common name. We do tend to favor real name most of the time, but there are absolutely exceptions to that all over the place.

I'm not familiar with the character here, but based on the wiki it sounds like she's known as Rainbow even in the game, with Nanakawa being more a bit of trivia than anything we see in the game. True/false?

This quote indicates to me that it is never actually used in the games, it's maybe referenced in an artbook or buried on the lead producer's twitter or something. If it was in the game it wouldn't be something one would have to search for.

Her real name being trivia is true; Games, comics, and etc. eirher refer to her as Rainbow Mika, Mika, or R. Mika. Nanakawa is really something you'd have to look up to know, along the same lines as Captain Falcon's real name being Douglas Jay Falcon. (which could be aliased as well obviously if desired)
