Real world locations in images

A few related things.

So, I started making a list of real world places and landmarks showing up in posts: tag group:places, buildings and landmarks

• I'm sure it isn't comprehensive. Any help organizing and fleshing the list out is much appreciated.
• Stupidly picked a horrendously long wiki title. Can a mod rename it to something more sensible, please?

Also, we have stuff like post #613254 and post #422489 that reference real world locations (notable or not). Tag suggestion: real_world_location (or similar shorter tag). Additionally (or alternatively): pseudo-geotagging with google maps or other lat/long link, and geotagged.

Why limit it to real-world locations? If a famous location from a fictional universe appears in a lot of images, it makes sense for it to get a tag, too.

Um, yes, they should, but that's not my point. I'm trying to do two things: 1. better organize real world location tags. 2. "geotag" images based on real world locations (especially if they don't have a taggable building or place name).

This sounds pretty cool.

As for the tag group name, how about just tag_group:real_world_locations, like the proposed tag? I'll do that for now.

I am conflicted about train station interiors (post #429548, post #566205), though. They do refer to actual locations, but I suppose I won't tag those unless it can be shown that they are faithful depictions.

Also reckon we should exclude anime "locations" based on real places (e.g. post #113329), there are other websites devoted to that kind of stuff.

There are 49 images with the venice and venezia tags applied to them. Most of them are Aria images. Should these be changed, then? Otherwise, it's going to foul the list up. And the photo_background tag is going to be affected by this, isn't it?

The Aria location is Neo Venezia, not Venice.

venice: yes, it seems to me the most sensible and coherent thing to do would be to move Aria images under neo_venizia. Non-Aria images can remain. An alias between venice and venezia may also be in order. Any other thoughts?

photo_background: I'm not sure about this, but I think we can keep it as a distinct tag, and also apply real_world_location in cases where a location has been sourced. Once could argue for an implication since it has to be a photo of some actual place, but honestly, most of the photo background images are quite generic and not "locatable".
