Nue is a different case. a nue is a known species of youkai, just one with inconsistent descriptions on their biology. A Tenkajin isn't a real species of Youkai.
Also, Nue would more likely revel in being seen as weird or mysterious. If anything, she'd probably be jealous of Tenkajin for being an actually unknown species.

I'm curious where you could have gotten the idea that she was a made up youkai, just because she's named after her species.

On a serious and objective pov, the girls have nothing but Tanaka and Kadokawa to blame. They could have become the next Touhou. But no. At this point of the franchise lifetime, and in this year, loyalists trying to defend Kadokawa's and Tanaka's poor decisions on the game and the franchise are just drunk on copium.

if only they could retrofitted whole game into modern gacha game and release it to global audience, the fandom would survive for decades

The Shigisan Engi, the picture scroll the historical Myouren's story is mostly known through, features a story where the monk Myouren's elder sister walks across the country to find him after not seeing him for 20 years (guided by a purple cloud). I.e. the very story Byakuren is (very loosely) based on is about their reunion, but one that took place before he died and she became a youkai.
