To be honest, part of me was expecting Marisa to fire that Master Spark at Reimu. I've been wondering why Yukari wants to keep Marisa away from Reimu, and I started to think that Yukari fears that Marisa is Mima's Manchurian Candidate, simply waiting for Reimu to be at her weakest in order to kill her.

I never even though of that but it also makes sense

Sounds like something jiroo's Marisa would do, but I don't see it here. Marisa was just as concerned about Reimu, it's just that Yukari can't allow her to be part of Reimu's life anymore. Not with her pregnancy and family objectives.

Yea that's my thought. Both of them can't accept that Reimu's a 'grown up' and can't be like she was in the past for them.
It would be fitting for Remilia as she's a bit of a control freak. A bit of a "HOW DARE SHE CHANGE!" vibe.
Yukari probably fears Marisa would mess things up. Yukari is doing Business. Something she's done for generations. But we'll find out in the future what exactly her motives were.
For all we know Yukari was in her eyes trying to protect Marisa from the heartbreak of seeing the invincible Reimu starting to become just another human.

I'm guessing part of it is this, the other part is definitely to keep the cycle going. IMO, this plays out as such; Yukari and Reimu are to the continued existence of Gensokyo, as Akyuu is to the history of Gensokyo. A cycle that is perpetuated every generation, where the powers of the Hakurei Miko are like the lifespans of the Akyuu clan, short and ephemeral, and their responsibilities is passed on to the next in line.
I think there was also the threat of disappointment; having spent her entire life trying to surpass Reimu in power, she only manages to do so out of what's more or less a loophole: age, through choosing her own agelessness and not surpassing Reimu, but having Reimu grow weaker than her. It's the 'cheap' way that I don't see a hard worker like Marisa really being able to accept, and that sort of emotion could have very well turned Marisa into what Remilia became.

erm, SSiB pretty much showed that Reimu isn't invincible at all. With more practice, she could someday (if it wasn't for her lifespan) be able to become like Yorihime. Though, personality-wise, Reimu and Yorihime are opposite in terms of sense of duty and discipline, as in that Reimu is more easy-going, care-free, but both would offer their help when their kind are in need.
There's also more *possibilities* for why Marisa does her "secret training". 1) she doesn't like to share information or doesn't want distraction, though she often steals books, spells, etc. 2) she really likes to learn about magic (the way in which it is interesting to her -- flashy) and focus on becoming better than her current self (she made an immortality elixir somewhere around PCB, but it was "too large for consumption", among other things like trying to make her house hotter during winter) 3) she likes to fight, and Reimu, as important as she is to Marisa and other people, isn't Marisa's only option. Mima also liked to fight, back in the PC-98 games, and despite her characteristic teasing, some of her discipline and/or flashiness may have inspired Marisa.
in any case, I'll continue reading and see how the story explores the setting and possibilities.
Yeah...Despite her having nearly no power left, they are even more dazzling than before...They're too bright for me...Have you seen her eyes, White-Black?What are you doing?Kicking the one who is down. You can stand it, can't you?Chasing after the light, ending up burnt like this. Serves me right.Maybe I'm just the moth to her flame.Hmpf.
