This picture brings up something else odd. On the leg Homura has already pulled up, we can see the sole and heel of her (for lack of a better work" "bootyhose". Tecnically we should be able to see the outline of the sole of the other one on the floor (that is, the bottom shoud either be flat to the ground or tilted but either way it should be rigid). But it isnt there, the foot end of the stocking she is pulling on is just as floppy as a normal stocking, one that doesn't end in a sole. And if the idea in this picture is that Homura actually wears a pair of shoes under her stockings to get the effect we see (the way most cosplayers do when cosplaying her) she shouldn't be able to put the foot of the leg she is working with so flat against the bed. It's almost like the artist is implyings that Homura's stockings/hose have some weird addional magic that means that the soles and heels appear magically ONLY when she has them on, and dissapear when she removes them.
That's what bothered me about her outfit since she appeared for the first time. Is there a shoe under the pantyhose or vice versa? Is it even a pantyhose?

I DEMAND AN ANSWER
my money is on the latter, on the grounds that, if he actually did put her pantyhose on over a pair of shoes (so there was hose material on her souls) she'd wear the bottoms off walking (if they get that many holes in fights they can't be all that tough). Plus remember that the "official" costume's heels are quite a bit higher and more stiletto-like than those in the picture, they'd pierce the fabric almost instantly. There're techincally ar even examples of bootyhose in real life, though they usually are only used in things like movies are are more often full length bodysuits. Two examples that come to mind off the top of my head would be Poison Ivy's costume from the Batman and Robin movie and Seven of Nine's from Star Trek:Voyager.
Well one thing, Homura has pantyhose not stockings, so this picture is just wrong with that sense. Homura, like most anime characters have the whole 'magical boots' thing, like Saint Tail for intense and many others. From the looks of most Homura fanart and official art, the best guess is that she has heeled shoes under her pantyhose.

the issue wasn't really that you couldn't see her foot's heel it was that it was clear that there was no shoe heel on her foot and no shoe heel on the bottom of the stocking, and yet there was one on the foot that was still fully shod/clad.

As I said that is in fact how most cosplayers do do it, though the bottoms must still be heavily reinfoced or they'd shred out (I'd say that they were made of magical never tear fabric, but there are too many pictures of the tops with big holes and runs to believe that.)
Its rather surprising that after all this time and all the images of Homu-chan that this is the image that sparks the debate about her clothing despite my full knowledge from episode 1 that she was not wearing thighhighs of any form.

Blame me for that one. When I decided to broach the question, I thought it best to do so on a picture that showed Homura putting/taking her shoes/stocking/hose off/on, and this was the only one I could find. It's sort of similar to why I used post#851082 to tackle the question of whether Tomoe's boots are two colored, or whether she (for some reason) wears shoes over her boots. I needed a picture that at least would ALLOW for some discussion.
