You know... I totally don't get the hate she receives. Toyohime I can understand since she gave that speech about Earthlings that only shows just what fantastic racists the Moon people are, but Yorihime was actually fairly polite to the gang considering she was speaking to a bunch of intruders who came with the express intent of conquering her homeland (and Marisa openly admitted she was there to loot their stuff while Remilia conquered them)! Personality-wise she was the only character introduced in SSiB that was actually tolerable!
I guess its the fan blinders being on in full effect, but even Reimu (who can be queen of the jerkasses on occasion)admitted that they (the fan favorites) were the bad guys in that situation (the Moon hadn't done jack to them) and that it would only be karma if Yorihime defeated them (which she eventually did)!
I guess its because she beat everyone's favorites, but I actually read those chapters and the simple fact of the matter is that Yorihime should have lost at least three times over and only won because the gang were either screwing around instead of taking her seriously (Sakuya and Remilia) or they simply did not want to fight her seriously in the first place (Reimu, and, to a lesser extent, Marisa)!
1st Match - Sakuya: Yorihime lost! No "if's" and or "but's" about it! Sakuya froze time and appeared behind her with a knife to her throat! The only reason she let Yorihime go and continued the match instead of forcing a surrender (like Yorihime did to Reimu at swordpoint later) is that she knew Remilia wanted to be the one who defeated Yorihime and so she intended to drag the fight out to show Remilia what Yorihime was capable of! Sakuya lost because she never intended to win in the first place! Real Sakuya fans, who know just how skilled canon Sakuya is at reading and playing along with Remilia's childish whims, would have noticed this!
2nd Match - Marisa: I love Marisa, but she is basically a one-trick pony (all of her attacks, as varied as they are in appearance and application, are still just made of light) and Yorihime is a living Swiss Army Knife of super powers (the trick is to beat her before she figures out what you can do and summons and appropriate god/goddess to counter). Even then, Marisa never actually got hit even once and only gave up because she didn't want to put forth the effort of a protracted battle in which she would likely lose (she could have easily kept going and at least worn Yorihime down for the others but admitted it was probably pointless so why bother)! Yorihime's only real counter was a giant magical mirror. If Marisa could fire two Master Sparks at once, she could at least do it again and fire normal blasts from a third angle while Yorihime was using the mirror to deflect one laser and her sword to deflect the other. Still, this is the only fight where Yorihime would have most likely won no matter what.
3rd Match - Remilia: OMG, where to begin! Firstly, Remilia was smacking Yorihime around like a rag doll! She physically dominated the Moon girl, though it was partly Yorihime's own fault since she was holding back in hopes of seeing what Remilia had (instead of just summoning Amaterasu like she did once she got serious). Instead of exploiting this and just grappling Yorihime to death (or blasting her at point-bank range) Remilia plays along and when her danmaku fail she charges blindly again like an idiot. Yorihime summons Amaterasu (a freakin' sun goddess) and the end result is that Remilia is merely knocked out (if that isn't a tanking feat for Remilia, I don't know what is). Remilia lost because she failed to exploit her enemy's mistake and made the same mistake herself. Another fight where Yorihime should have lost, though, to be fair, if she had taken things seriously from the start she would have won in a curbstomp, but only because she knew Remilia was a vampire (with all the weaknesses that entails) from the get-go.
4th Match - Remiu: She admitted beforehand that her heart really wasn't in it (and mentioned that the bad guys, which they were, always lose in the end), but decided to give it a go on a whim. No motivation to begin with. Not a good start. What happened? She made Yorihime frightened with her taint/curse god attack, but made the mistake of relying on that one trick, and when Yorihime countered it, she gave up instead of just using Fantasy Heaven to become temporarily invincible and come up with some new strategy! Remiu loses (or rather, gave up) because she was being lazy and knew from the start that even if she lost Yorihime would just let them all go home unharmed! If she won? Remilia would try (and most likely fail) to conquer the Moon Capital and they would probably be killed. If she lost? They go home with nothing more than bruised egos! I'd say that was Reimu playing it safe more than anything.
So, everyone hates Yorihime because she won fights, that were extremely situational in the first place, against opponents who didn't really fight their best due to arrogance or apathy? Why? We already know Skauya cna kill her whenever she wants, and Reimu can at least make a real fight of it if she wants to, so the only ones who really lose to Yorihime are Remilia (vampire weaknesses exploited) and Marisa (all of her attacks are light-based and so require only one countermeasure).
It's obvious that pageratta loves Marisa. But since his Marisa isn't much OP I find it perfectly acceptable. @OmniGman: I don't read your post, but some people hate the Wakatsuki the same way I hate Reimu: overpowered. It's completely individual. I for one have nothing against that fight whatsoever, because I personally think Reimu, Marisa are crap, Sakuya is so-so and Remilia is only ranked 19th.

Except its not Plot Armor. Just look at Kaguya (a stay-at-home princess who never trains beyond fighting Mokou occasionally) and Eirin (who stuck the entire damn Earth, or at least Gensokyo, in a jar with prep and never trains); both of whom are very powerful. Lunarians are haxxed. This is established canon. Whining and saying their victories (which ultimately played into Yukari's and Eirin's hands anyway) were plot armor is like complaining because Batman picked a fight with some Kryptonians and got blasted by heat vision before he could use his Kryptonite ring (which is actually the most realistic outcome given their super-speed). Reimu has beaten Marisa, Sakuya, and Remilia in the past and Yorihime is basically a souped-up Reimu with centuries of experience (and actually takings things seriously). Of course they were going to get their asses kicked if they played around!
And Yukari didn't lose so much as she gave up before even trying because she knew she was just the distraction (and didn't want to sacrifice the innocents in the Bamboo Forest). If Yukari had been willing to tolerate the collateral damage I'd bet a fight between her and Toyohime on Earth (as opposed to the moon where Toyohime is at her strongest) would have gone very differently than what Toyohime expected.
I'll agree on their personalities, but only in regards to their fantastic racism. Besides that they are actually fairly polite and tolerant. Yorihime may be a little bland compared to her sister but that's about it.

I can make that simpler: One-Shot Characters + Beating Favorites = Fan Dumb.
The Watatsuki Sisters are no more or less bitchy than any other Touhou, or are people just ignoring the fact that being a horrible bitch is the default protagonist mode for Touhous (which makes them awesome).
Disregarding that, the entire point of the manga was for Reimu and Co. to be decoys (and for Yukari to get caught by the nice one) so Yuyuko could go in the Lunar Capital and gank their sake. They were supposed to lose, and none of the hero characters had their hearts in the fight (except for Remi, but she's kind of derpy in "canon"). Even when Reimu didn't care, she still had Yorihime on the back foot until she out-obscured her with Shinto gods. The Watatsukis still got played in the end, and that was after Yukari/Eirin helped them fix their own problems.
I just read SSiB, so now I know this, much like a lot of things, is stupid fandom bullshit.
