Yeah, somehow I doubt Yamashiro looked very scary while getting bullied by Heywood's immediate sister (Bennion).
American ships are always portrayed as terrified of the Japanese ships they faced, regardless of how the encounter actually turned out. This is particularly ridiculous, since I don't think that Heywood even suffered any damage at the Surigao Strait.
And this was also the battle where Fuso demonstrated that a battleship can be sunk by torpedoes.

I think isnt that much how it ended but rather how they performed during battle tho in that case Yamashiro should have been just the equivalent of hunting down an elephant roaring with absolute hatred with a pack of hunters on board of jeets. I do wonder if sailors still felt in danger when facing a battleship in that current damaged state regardless.
As far im aware in KC canon so far only Northamptom(DDs), Scamp(4chan) and Honolulu(Jintsuu) seem to be scare of one particular ship at least to a few ones.
In terms of fanarts, cases like Iowa's were the other way around, SoDak and Mighty themselves arent scared of the shipgirls they faced and SoDak herself has some rivalry with Kirishima. Helena and Atlanta seem to dislike IJN destroyers, what i find funny is that depictions of Johnston with Yamato tend to go the other way around with Yamato being afraid of her despite Johnny herself irl never being able to attack Yamato, Hoel was the one launch torps at Yamato.
I'm curious what would happen to this type of fanarts once Hoel gets added to the game.

Not really, the ones who weren't sunk generally aren't afraid of anyone, and even among the ones that were Hornet isn't afraid of Shoukaku, Atlanta isn't afraid of Raiden, and Sammy B. and Johnston don't even know what the word "fear" even means. This artist in particular just has an "interesting" take.
It's nin-hm? Who is that at this hour? Shigure! And behind you is... Yamashiro? What's with that big bottle? Aah, no violence! Huh? I'm mistaken? You've brought me some sake? Huh?
It's ten o'clock now. 2200. Those big bottles are called isshoubin, right? Sake is so delicious! Ah, Yamashiro! Don't pour so much to the Admiral! Admiral, are you okay? Keep it together!
Heywood's just normally amicable and non-confrontational. Here, it's somewhat exaggerated to bounce off Yamashiro's well-known petty and irritable traits then subvert them as Yamashiro is neither hostile nor bearing any grudge toward Heywood.

Yeah, combined with Heywood's 15:00 line
It's three o'clock now. 1500. Shigure, how is Yamashiro these days? Huh? Ah, oh. I see. I'll be careful.
It seems that Heywood was worried that Yamashiro was holding a grudge, but nowhere near being afraid/apologetic.

Of course, the fact that Scamp is afraid of CD-4 but I-168 is not afraid of her is a bit of an interesting wrinkle.
The fact that it's comedy gold is a more reasonable explanation though.
From what I understand, Heywood in the last panel is apologizing to Yamashiro for torpedoing her during the battle of surigao strait (Heywood’s PoV in 3rd panel).
Yamashiro has no idea what Heywood is going on about in 4th panel, and Shiggu is saying something along the lines of “What did you do to her, Yamashiro?”.
