I fail to see how is this clever? is not just an optic illusion like those you see when you select on internet explorer or something?
The artist made it so that the image match with the background and did a very well done transparency trick. If you save the picture, put it in photoshop or something and put a different color layer beneath it the picture match perfectly with any color down to the shading.

It also works if you just drag the pic on the screen, or with right click -> view image (on firefox at least, don't know with other browsers).
