Now that the WHO has declared Europe the new epicenter of the virus, I think it's only fair that this so-called menace "Corona-chan" gets a proper redesign.
I wonder if the WHO will shift the epicentre to the USA or another large country as the pandemic moves about...
They do like to be Number One...
I think it would be hard to list the US as an epicenter due to the lack of testing. Most of the issue here is the federal government not being prepared leading to a shock across the medical spectrum. Trump maintains everything's fine while hospitals run out of supplies. One of his supporters tweets about going to Robin's and how everything's fine.
The WHO is trying to obscure the fact that the virus comes from China. Redesigning Corona-chan to a more Central European design only help spread the narrative.

No one is obscuring anything, the new epicenter is Europe. This virus has wound-down in China, so its a moot point.
Never, ever underestimate how stupid people can be. I have seen a number of dumbass shit spread about the novel corona virus. Why they insist on being dumbasses and calling it the Chinese virus when it's clear as day it is no longer contained to the country is beyond me.
On that note, Italy has surpassed China in deaths from the virus.

Because China is where it first became known, which is how pandemics are often named outside technical circles. An easy example being the Spanish Flu and its arctic mutant derivative, the Alaskan Black Death. The Spanish Flu was (and is) referred to as such because Neutral Spain was where a majority of the information about the H1N1 Flu came from, given WW1 and all, even though the first recorded case was in Kansas, USA and the hardest hit area was India. The Alaskan Black Death is referred to as such because the Nome Serum Run, even though it also spread through Russia, Canada, the north-west US, and even Japan's northern territory. More people died in Russia from it than Alaska. The names have nothing to do with being the origin, the epicenter, nor even where a majority of people died from/were affected by it, it has everything to do with people's information flow. Stupid? Not really. Dumbass? Again, not really. It's just people being heartless, and frankly 'heartless' is a very apt descriptor for humanity as a whole.
The point is, I believe, is that people don't want the China connection to be forgotten due to criticism on how their government handled the initial outbreak (especially since it required a whistle-blower for the virus to even be known to the world in the first place).
The current outbreak is just the latest in the Chinese gov't bungled handling of epidemics. Meanwhile, their mouthpieces are blaming the virus spread on Italy and the United States. It doesn't need to be referred to as a "Chinese virus", but the PRC is trying to deceive the public about the virus origins, and generally shift blame away.
