I would have guessed she liked power armor and destroying alien bases, which means she is the most compatible with Master Chief. I think the only reason she says "NO!" is because of the lame Halo/Metroid rivalry.
Have you ever played the first Halo? He takes off his helmet at the end. Besides, what you said is kind of contradictory. He quickly destroys alien bases so he's not man enough?
Samus is an independent woman who happens to be the absolute best female protagonist out there (not to mention the first). She can stand on her own two feet, and also be shooting shit at the same time.
Master Chief is an overplayed bad ass arche-type (correct term right?) whom everyone likes just because he waves around guns and blows stuff up. Plus he repeats the usual stuff with him going out to rescue Cortana, just like any other game that concerns a female.
Plus something tells me if Samus WERE to want to be in a relationship... well... she'd come after whom she wanted.
But yeah, Samus doesn't need a male significant other to define her existence because she can take care of herself. Her being a loner lends more to her strength and plus, a romance in her case? It would RUIN THE METROID STORY. A lot of romances ruins stories. -_-; /end rant
What the fuck are you talking about? Samus is exactly the same as Master Chief but because she's a woman you give her some credit. I can think of dozens of female protagonists that are far superior to Samus- heck, each Final Fantasy title has 3 women better than Samus.
If anything, a romance would enhance the Metroid storyline, which is basically "Go from base to base destroying aliens that are experimenting on metroids." Wow, what a rich and layered storyline.
Samus has absolutely no character, no personality, no nothing. At least Master Chief talks once in a while and says some cool and humorous things. The Halo books, especially the first one, are good works of science fiction writing. If you enjoyed classics like Ender's Game you'll enjoy at least the first book. Metroid, on the other hand, had some lame comics released where we find out Ridley killed her parents- wow, that's really an original motivation for a character there.
That being said, the Metroid series is one of my all-time favorites, but let's not kid ourselves by saying she's a good character or that Metroid has a decent storyline.

Have you played Metroid Fusion? Out of all the Metroid games, that's the one I've seen that gives Samus the most personality. Even kind of a love interest.
You know people are desperate to attach some kind of substance to a character when they dig around for old handheld games. Yeah, I played it but I don't remember anything except that there was an evil twin and and there was a cool mechanical spider boss. Oh, and there were walking Metroids. Maybe there was something in the ending cutscene, who knows, but it's really not enough.
Metroid Fusion is actually the only Metroid game I've played, and I found it quite memorable for its story. In fact, I was surprised at its depth (considering it's all an excuse to run around a complex and blow things up). Not claiming Samus to be a super diverse character here, just thought I'd note that.
Waitwaitwait, you, GF, are discounting one of the four main[/n] Metroid games? Pssh, I'd wager your main exposure is to the Prime games.I don't care if Samus has much in the way of character development, since based on those comics (what all I've read through thus far, FSM bless translators), she seems to be past most any personal crisis point. Samus is a righteous dude, a badass, and happens to be female (and quite a looker, 'physically'-thick Zero Mission portrayals aside). Plus, c'mon, sexy, unhindered purple motion! The Power Suit and all its variants are hella cool and, in a way, part of her body.
I like Super Metroid more than I like any of the Primes. Nostalgia aside, I find that it has the best music, among other things, and I think that the music has an excellent way of setting the tone and mood of the game, unlike the remixes and techno beats of the Prime games.
I just don't see why people can love Samus so much and hate Master Chief, even though they're basically the same character, although with different genders and armor design. You said she was "a righteous dude, a badass..." and that's basically the Chief.
She's also, as one of a couple of my favorite ReMixes says, "One Girl in All the World" (though we're gonna have to extend "world" to encompass the range within which their society/ies function, though maybe it an be her singular appearance amongst her various missions).

For the record, I wasn't hating on Chief, just saying Samus isn't generic.
Also, you're calling me desperate for "digging around for old handheld games" when you use Super Metroid in one of your examples, a game that came out EIGHT YEARS before Fusion.
ande=EPIC FAIL that is samus wearing light suit from prime 2 rtard besides not only is BoS pwoer armor bulkyer sara always had her hair in a pony tail, where as samus doesnt

Because she's one of the few females that susprise male players in video game history, sure she has no depth no personality, but don't bash her for that because she's mostly oldschool.

i liked Metroid Fusion too, and it did have hints of a romance

you can't compare the two so easily. samus doesn't talk because the game never called for a voice actor. master cheif talks... and that's about it. i bet he's emo, what with that monotone, depressing banter of his.

Y'know, actually reading/playing the games might clear up a lot of these confusions. First off, Samus does narrate in game a couple times. Secondly, master chief is anything but depressing.
You...know it is pathetic when you all have nothing better to do then rant about a video game character or two honestly. They are kick ass characters but when it all falls down to it what they do in there game how they act is based on the creators of the game and there is nothing you can do to change that everything else is opinion. Also the people how being sexism to this debate are just pathetic, in a perfect world guys and girls would be equal in very aspect but, this isn't a perfect world so..... "GET OVER THE FACT WE ALL HAVE LIMITS EVEN IN SAME GENDER SO HOW ABOUT YOU STOP SUPPORTING YOUR ONE SIDED IDEAL-ISMS LIKE YOU TELL EVERYONE ELSE AND GET OF YOU SOAP BOX YOUR NOT AND INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKER"

I gotta go with Snake on this one. Being a bit of a "Ladies' Man" myself, I happen to know that a crocodile hat wins 'em over every single time. That's how my girl and I got together.
Suddenly Tony Stark vanishes in a flash of Power Bomb. Ladies are saved.
Master Chief is a pathetic little wimp compared to Samus. And ESPECIALLY if you wanna talk power. NONE of anyone who would want to hit on her could POSSIBLY match her. Why would she want to be with someone that she would most likely kill by sheer accident while saving planets?
Yuri-obsessed perverts. I'll make sure to add you to Samus' newest "To eliminate" list; right above Metroids, Ridley, and Mother Brain.
Nah, this is to show just how Samus is THE top lady. She's not just un-hitched, she's not interested.
There really should be a Super Missile chasing M.C. away...
Samus would say No to Master Cheif because his name is two titles put together, and he never takes off his mask, what kind of relationship would come from that?

...actually 'master chief' is just part of his title, which is 'master chief petty officer'. his name is john. if you go with his spartan designation, it's john-117. also, the reason why you never see his face is because it allows you to kinda put yourself in his position.
Other M is amazing and proves Samus is too win for everyone else in existance plus Chief has never dealt with a cute little fluffball that turns into a giant space-pirate dragon monster Ridley thing that kills a mysterious black dude who we will always remember
