Controls doors (i.e portals) Moves anywhere she likes Tabard Gensokyo sage Blonde Servants Sitting (!) Mantains Gensokyo's balance and protects it from the outside world
Basically Yukari with Koishi's color scheme, but less misterious. I'm usually optimistic with new characters, but this one?
Also this art in particular seems really low quality...?

I've been saying it as a joke, but the more I look at her, I do wonder if ZUN really has seen Komeiji Koishi's Heart Throbbing Adventure. That said, I don't think the art is low in quality whereas the characters aren't as, hmmm... interesting or inspiring, perhaps?
I kind of expected such a lull, though. I mean, Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, after the usual carrying-on about what's wrong, ultimately, it blew everyone away. The moment LoLK started taking its place in the hearts of fans, I said to myself, "...it's going to be a GOOD while before he can truly follow this one up." Not saying that's the case, but it may be a factor as to why these characters seem so underwhelming; this boss, in particular.
All that said... this is the first time the Stage 6 boss is also the EX-Stage boss, right? I think that's unique (This one's for you, power-levels-based-on-stages debater, lol). Maybe the game, in a bit of irony, is less about the characters and more about the formula- he seems to be experimenting with it all the time, these days.
Of course, I don't play the games. I just love the lore and ideologies they inspire. Long comment, end

I din't mean the design, i meant the image in itself. Like it's really low resolution and choppy, or something. This is a screenshot i made using the game's 1280x960 resolution: http://i.imgur.com/p3M1FmG.png
How do we identify what hat she is wearing? It resembles a Tang Dynasty Putou (as is described in Matarajin's Chinese and Japanese Wikipedia pages), but the real thing has floppy ears whereas Okina's is pointy.

You know, I've been playing some Final Fight lately and Belger was one of the first things that came to mind when I saw Okina. Both Stage 6/Final bosses, and sitting on a chair...
I am severely disappointed by a lack of Warspite crossovers in the first few hours. Is this not the law of the Internet that KC and Touhou must have crossovers with everything?
(Also, considering the door powers, there must be Doraemon crossovers.)

Incorrectly assuming Touhou is as relevant and popular like before. Not saying it isn't relevant and popular anymore.

Actually, the connection seems intentional. Even if you take away everything else, her danmaku alone gives off a distinct Yakumo vibe (especially the nonspells). Whether or not you like the design (I do, but that's just my opinion), it seems to me that ZUN wanted us to think of Yukari with this one.

I think I hear some of the same musical cues in her stage 6 theme as in Yukari's theme. But only her stage 6 theme, her extra stage theme sounds to be a completely new thing.

So, it was intentional? I guess she will pass then. I dunno, I just think that those final bosses have been becoming increasingly boring since Shinmyoumaru. Whenever a new game comes out, the final boss is always the thing I look forward the most, since to me it's the climax of any game. But since th14, it has only been a letdown after another. I only haven't lost my hopes yet because I'm passing everything as "intentional".
I mean, take a look at some notable fangames for example. Momohime from RSS or Fuma from BoSM are far more appealing as far as final bosses go. Their unique/distinct character designs alone make them more interesting.
On a more positive note, as for this game, I think I enjoyed Narumi the most. I dig the Jizo statue inspiration, which gives her some charisma. And she is cute to boot.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but those are my honest thoughts.

Oh, good one, there's definitely a bit of Necrofantasia hidden in there.

Yeah, there's no contest, Narumi is the best one. Closely followed by Aunn, I'd say.

I haven't seen her extra danmaku yet, let's see then. Good points, tho.
Also, looks like Okina actually knows Yukari very well (per Reimu's extra), and it's implied but not confirmed that Yukari was the one who suggested to use the "boundary between seasons" against Okina, so i really hope we can see those 2 interact in the manga
And with Kasen, it makes 3 sages, all with a tabard. Maybe they chose that as a uniform or something :V

It's worth noting the same line from Yukari that revealed Kasen was a sage, implied Yukari is also on bad terms with any other sages we may discover. So, we may already have our answer there.

It's interesting that you describe the TH16 characters in comparison to TH15 because my partner and I, both several year Touhou fans, were only blown away by TH15 through how bad it was. If anything, we see TH16 as a huge step back in the right direction. I don't know how many fans feel the way we do, but I wanted to mention this because you made it out like all fans unanimously liked 15 (at least after a while), and that's not the case as my boyfriend and I prove. TH15 still hasn't grown on us at all, and at least in my case, it's not nostalgia goggles because I'm a fan of 13 and 14. I just don't like anything about 15 at all, it's distinctly unappealing even after I tried it.
