Said Ru to Gipsy. Remember what happened when giant fights midget ? To adds up on the handicap, Ru dropped her guns, meaning she's coming for bare-fist fight, which is again, trope-wise, put advantage to her side.

Or maybe she was shocked by the fact that the Naval Base had a Jaeger to deploy.

"There are things you can't fight, acts of God. You see a Ru-class Battleship coming, you have to get out of the way. But when you're in a Jaeger, suddenly, you can fight the Ru-class Battleship. You can win."
Well, I doubt that Jaeger would be able to land even a hit on Ru. After all, Ru is so much smaller here, this goes to her advantage while she can just move to dodge attack when the Jaeger is, well, a practice target that can't be missed.

Collateral damage just by walking through will almost capsize Ru. Also, the resulting convection due to the plasma cannon being slammed into the general vicinity of Ru would either melt her due to heat convection or sink her due to flash-boil. The latter will be worse than being hit by supercavitation torpedoes.

Actually, I imagine something like this happening.
Gypsy Danger swung tankers at Kaiju like a club. You have to remember that Jaegers were built to fight off gimped Godzilla. Reincarnation of vengeful battleships are not on the same scale of danger.

No, Gypsy swung around a 250 ton cargo ship. Gypsy itself weighed less than Fubuki. If Ru has even half the power of a WWII battleship, she can drive an amusingly shaped hole through a jaegar without flinching.

...highly doubt it. WW2 ships were pre-nuclear. Even an outdated Jaeger like Gipsy Danger utilized nuclear reactors and plasma weaponry. And this isn't even touching upon what their armor's designed to withstand from just resting momentum, just thanks to being humanoid mechs instead of something more sensibly designed. The /fact/ that they're combat-capable despite the physics of that scale suggests plenty about how tough even the weakest jaegers are, and WW2 weaponry weren't designed with those parameters in mind.
Nuclear reactors are not more powerful than combustion engines. Otherwise we wouldn't be using coal or oil plants. The main perk for nuclear reactors is that they don't need air to breathe and go a long time between refueling.
You know, what I was wondering about after seeing all sorts of Kantai Collection Pacific Rim crossover art is how big as the Kantai Collection girls are. Are they they giants or are they human-sized?

Probably Human-sizes, like the shipgirls. The Abyss girls are the same as the Shipgirls afterall since they're both personified versions of WW2 battleships.
The only ones I see as possible giants would be the Onis and Himes since they're technically ports and islands rather than ships so it would make sense if they were giant monsters. Although, I doubt size and such matter that much. It's all fan speculation and such.

In the first episodes of the anime you can see the humanoid Shinkaisei-kan moving alongside the monster like destroyers, then you get a scene where a destroyer gets on Fubuki's face. That would help to give you an idea of their size

Just to keep from tearing itself to pieces under it's own weight as it moved around never mind being body slammed by monsters weighing thousands of tons, hurled hundreds of meters through the air by their blows, walking around on the ocean floor under pressure that would crush modern subs like beer cans, etc a Jaeger has to be unfathomably more robust and powerful then any warship ever built. A warship exposed to anything Gypsy shrugged off during the movie would've ended up a completely unrecognizable mass of crumpled wreckage.
The energies involved here would make battleship shells seem like BB guns.
