Indeed. People tend not to lose their entire hands, but they often lose their fingers. It's proper to push the round in very swiftly, as not doing so not only risks your digits, but risks the round not going all the way into the breech, causing it to have to be extracted, a time consuming process that can risk more than just your fingers.
