This is a really cute picture, as well as interesting. From the fact that the knight is holding a jousting lance; not a war lance, and his lance and cape are in Cirno's colors, we can infer that he's serving as her Champion in a contest of some sorts.
He may well be the only knight in all Christendom willing to champion the cause of a Fey, damned as they are in the eyes of the Church. Who knows; he may even be taking her part AGAINST the church.

Wow... someone actually thinks things into this work of cuteness... Well, nothing more to say than GJ pal...
Actually, The only way The Church would accept Cirno would be saying (and proving) that she's of divine origin, and hasn't fallen to the ranks of demons...
...just how would a fairy from Gensokyo even get into Medieval western Europe?
As for how the Church would regard her; belief in magic and all sorts of supernatural creatures was actually really common throughout Medieval Europe, and the Church usually denounced as superstition, or as an existing but unimportant element of the natural world.
Actual witch hunts only really started happening during the late Medieval ages, and even those were local phenomena (there are parts of Europe that never saw a single witch hunt, like most of Spain, for example).
If this would have happened sometime during, say, the 12th century and Cirno doesn't get burnt by holy water or shy away from crucifixes, the local priest (who is guaranteed to be superstitious as fuck anyway) will conclude that she's not aligned with Satan, and is therefore harmless.
I just find this picture so incredibly adorable and badass at the same time.

Bear in mind, however, that people back then though hell was cold. With Cirno being an ice fairy and proclaiming herself as the strongest, we'd be dealing with a representation of what people feared the most, not to mention the sin of pride and ohlooki'vegonecrosseyed
