Taroman: A Taro Okamoto Style Tokusatsu Drama is a 2022 tokusatsu drama inspired by the works and words of Japanese artist Okamoto Taro, combining his avant-garde style with the absurdism found in 70s tokusatsu. It follows our hero Taroman (inspired by the 'Tower of the Young Sun' sculpture located at Japan Monkey Park in Nagoya for his head and the Tower of the Sun sculpture located in Suita, Osaka for his body pattern, wrapped in an Ultra-esque package), as he 'defends' humanity in his own avant-garde fashion against the kiju, who are all inspired in design by Okamoto Taro's works.
Taroman would prove to be incredibly successful for NHK, inspiring follow-up specials which continue to pretend Taroman was an actual show from the 70s and him appearing as a representative of Okamoto Taro's work at special events. A theatrical movie would be released in 2025, entitled Daichouhen Taroman Banpaku Daibakuhatsu, or The Great Long Feature - Taroman: Expo Explosion.
