taoist robe
A traditional garment worn by practitioners of Taoism, symbolizing their spiritual beliefs and cultural heritage. These robes are typically long and flowing, crafted from silk or cotton, and feature a cross collar and large sleeves, with a concealed Bai on both sides of the garment. The collar edge is wide and a collar guard is usually added. They're often adorned with symbols such as the bagua (Eight Trigrams) or yin yang to reflect Taoist philosophy.
Designed for both ritual and daily use, they emphasize simplicity, harmony, and the connection between humans and nature, key tenets of Daoism. The robes vary in color and design, with different styles signifying the wearer's role, sect, or spiritual attainment. These robes are larger than Zhiduo and Zhishen of the same size, especially the hem is wider.
Though one of the traditional costumes of Taoism, this style of robe was also the main style of casual wear and dress for scholars in the Ming Dynasty, so they were not necessarily used as all Taoist costumes.
