A meme that emerged during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Drawing on the worldwide Miku concept, social media users began to treat tournament matches as battles for custody over the Japanese virtual idol Hatsune Miku.
Began as a result of the Brazil versus Japan match on June 29, 2026, with Brazilian Miku challenging the original. After a 2-1 victory, the meme saw social media declare Brazil the holder of custody. July 5, 2026 saw Norway take custody after defeating Brazil, 2-1, leading to Norwegian Miku. July 11, 2026 saw England defeat Norway, again 2-1, with the result being English Miku. July 15, 2026 saw Argentina take custody from England, again 2-1, with some additional jokes about Argentinian Miku taking revenge over Argentina's defeat in the 1982 Falklands War. Finally, on July 19, 2026, after a 1-0 victory, Spain defeated Argentina, taking the cup and winning ultimate custody over Miku, giving us Spanish Miku. The fact each Miku incumbent lost their next match has resulted in some calling her custody the Miku Curse.
