The Battle of Kursk was a major World War II Eastern Front large-scale battle between the forces of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union in the area around the city of Kursk in southwestern Russia during the late summer of 1943.

The operation ultimately became the largest tank battle, as well as the largest battle in history of warfare. The Soviet ultimately became victorious, and managed to halt the German advance, eventually gained momentum for subsequent the counter-offensive.

It is considered by some historians to be the turning point of the European theatre of war instead of the Battle of Stalingrad several months earlier.
