Tornado GR1, and her L85 (A1? not particularly sure with the SA80 history) would have to be the un-upgraded version. Before the LANDSET fixes iirc. *doublechecks wiki*
Also, can someone translate the artist comments? I've kinda given up on Japanese after a really horrible teacher. (I managed to pass the class, just...ick)
Sorry for the delay, I've been sick and distracted lately. The unit here doesn't make much sense to me on some basic research. I'd appreciate input from someone more knowledgeable.
Strike Witches 1991 #15
The Tornado. It's a relatively compact unit with a wonderful feeling of a lot of power in a small body, complete with variable geometry wing design, an enormous tail fin, and two autocannons. It was entrusted with missions such as the destruction of enemy runways in the Gulf, yet seems to have suffered very few losses. ◆ The 139th Wing of the United Kingdom of Britannia Air Force, "Chimera" flight. The Striker is the Tornado GR1. From Somalia to the recapture of Socotra, they've fought primarily South of the Arabian Peninsula. Front: Flight Lieutenant Wendy Maloney (17), familiar: retriever. Back: Flight Lieutenant Khadija Nasir (17), admitted from the Arabian Allied Air Forces, familiar: cobra.
I actually left the artist a google-translated comment suggesting he do a pink striker unit, since the British actually painted some of there planes pink (apparently there's a shade of pink that blends in well against sand).
Anyhow this is a pretty good pic, although I might have gone with a Steyr AUG in desert tan for the Jaziran witch rather than a Kalashnikov.
Probably having to fight like *ell to prove herself, since grandpa Trevor was such jerk, and got into so much trouble with the 501st during the Warlock incident...
While I love this Gulf War Nuroi pictures of Strike Witches, there was a whole line or airplanes in the middle that would make great fan art too... like the Nuroi Korean War (Mig-15 and F-86 Sabre), or the Nuroi Vietnam War (Mig-21, F-4 Phantom II and F-105 Thunderchief).
