"gloomy guss introvert"

what the hell is guss, am I missing some reference?

Google throws me dictionaries for German or similar languages.

Becuase it's just supposed to be 'Gus' as in the name. It means a depressing or generally pessimistic and reserved person.

this. its just a random name used sometimes when referring to a person. like "Negative Nancy" isn't literally talking about a person named Nancy its just a thing people say

English has a lot of these, some being referential like Doubting Thomas, while others just random.

• Plain Jane
• Nervous Nellie
• Doubting Thomas
• Average Joe
• Hooray Henry
• Billy no mates

Never heard the last two, I wonder if they're British terms that never made it across the pond/never caught on in America for whatever reason
