The original writer of the Highschool of the Dead manga, Sato Daisuke, died years ago. After that, Satou Souji did not feel capable of continuing the series alone or with another writer.

They died in 2017 if I'm not mistaken, and if I'm also right the writer told Satou Shouji not to continue the series.
