Did a quick and dirty colorization, because I couldn't stand that other one.

Much better IMHO. Although it was probably just a multiply layer, the preservation of details and desaturated colors are much nicer than the other. While you didn't spend as much time on the crotch as the other, this one gets my vote.

The "other one" seems to have been deleted. Just for the record, I had no problems at all with the original monochrome parent post; the "other one" refers to a different colorized post.

Yeah, it does look a lot better then my version. It doesn't bother me that it was deleted, my intentions were honorable. I don't really have the time to do much editing, so I am no pro by any means. I tried re-doing it with color replacement and redrawing lines while making sure the shadows were kept, even so, I couldn't get it this dark. If you have the time to respond I would appreciate knowing what tools you use to do this.

I'm no pro either, but this is basic stuff that can be done using any decent free or commercial paint program, such as GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc.

I pretty much did exactly as Anonymous said. Use the original image as the background layer. Then place a new transparent layer on top of it, let's say for Rin's sweater color. Set that new layer's mode to "multiply". Then on that new layer, color the sweater area red using paintbrush/bucket-fill/whatever. Optional step is tweak and soften the layer using blur filters, transparency settings, etc. When you're done with Rin's sweater, create new layers and just repeat the process for each different area you wish to color (skin, eyes, etc).
