Unflagging comments for deletion

Posted under General

That doesn't change the fact that it's a good idea for the "flag for deletion" javascript function to change the text "Flag comment for deletion" to "Unflag comment for deletion", with a reverse action substituted in. Seems like a natural UI design choice to me.

Also, should there be an automatic expiration on a flagged comment? I just went into the comment mod screen and there were something like 50 comments flagged that were just fine, apparently somebody's been going around flaggging things wildly. I think if it hasn't been deleted after a week of being flagged, just approve it automatically--like the auto-rejection process of the images, but in reverse.

(If this system is already in place, then just ignore that whole post!)

Oh, you're right, haha, I guess the author of all those posts was anonymous, durrr. In that case I'd like to know who's marking things. Also, maybe instead of it going straight to the mod queue, maybe the system should ask for a reason, one of those prompts with "OK" and "cancel" buttons. That way the amount of accidental reports would decrease dramatically.

What sort of comments are considered ripe for deletion? I often flag things which aren't necessarily offensive, but are just really stupid or worthless comments like "hawt" or "I WANNA BANG HER!!" or "can you draw another one like this?" or "I CAN'T SEE THIS LOLI POST!" etc. If that's not deletion-worthy, I'll stop doing that.

I delete comments like that on sight (unless they have snarky replies), for what it's worth.

Same here. I don't check the comments too often, but if I see something completely useless, away it goes. Especially if it's bumping a 2 year old picture to say that it sucks (gj getting it back on the top comment page, ass!)

By all means, do flag them. Also, I don't think flags should expire, if only because we regularly forget about comment mod queue...

Good point that. Maybe the list of comments up for moderation can also include some more info--specifically: who flagged it, when, and when the comment was posted.

And then also the prompt asking for a reason, I think that will make the comment modding screen exponentially more useful. I don't know about other mods, but I often find it a bit intimidating to go there and see a list dozens of comments without any context.
