I'm not sure if I can agree with this alias because magic lamps aren't often associated with oil lamps.
Okay, then what kind of lamps are they associated with? Kerosene lamps? Electric lamps? (hint: it's an oil lamp.)

One day an anime will stick a genie in a flashlight and this won't make sense. Also, I Dream of Jeannie.
Although a flashlight technically is a lamp, nobody really calls it that, and I doubt a flashlight -> lamp implication would go through if it were proposed. And bottles aren't lamps.

Shortly before making this thread, there were only 2 posts tagged with magic lamp. I searched genie + lamp and decided to change some of them to magic lamp, but came a post tagged with oil lamp. That was when I realized I didn't really know what a magic lamp actually was, because I'm not at all familiar with oil lamps. (Wikipedia says they got replaced by kerosene ones circa 1850, and I'm not over 160 years old, you know.) The word lamp, to me, just meant a desk lamp or a kerosene lamp. So I had to look it up. That it is called a magic lamp in the first place means that it is a lamp, and in the original sense of the word "lamp", it refers specifically to an oil lamp, but since they are no longer used, the more general definition is an object that radiates light and heat.
I'm trying to say that magic lamp is just a conflation of oil lamp and genie, so it isn't necessary. Just like mutual yuri was a conflation of couple and yuri, and tentacle rape was a conflation of tentacles and rape. It was decided that both of those tags should no longer be used.
To make this alias unusable, there has to be a post someone would tag with magic lamp that would not be correctly tagged if we just used oil lamp and genie instead. So the question now is, if a genie comes from a any lamp that isn't an oil lamp, say, a kerosene lamp (but almost definitely not a flashlight), would people still feel that it should be tagged with magic lamp? If not, then I don't see the problem with this alias going through.

This is kinda what I'm thinking. I wouldn't tag anything but the traditional oil lamp as a magic lamp even if a genie were coming out of it.
