Translation:
We suspended new registrations for Pixiv and Drawr on 12/1, but today we have provisionally reopened new registrations. However, out of concern for the stability of our system and infrastructure, we will temporarily introduce an invitation based system rather than a registration based system. New users who wish to register for Pixiv must have a current Pixiv user send them an invitation email.

In other words, Pixiv is (at least temporarily) invite only.

Would probably work best to make a wiki page for that where people can enter themselves in the last and remove their names when they run out.

How many invites does an account have anyway? And how do you invite people, don't you need their email address?

Because bypassing the intended invite system with a foreigner's account on a Japanese site is a *great* way not to get your account shut down. Not to mention the brilliance of entrusting some random person on danbooru with your e-mail account.

Right after my post... I can only hope this was a joke.

I sincerely apologise, but so far my friends are always giving me excuses not to give me an invite. Anyway, I shall try my luck elsewhere.

You're doing it wrong. Here's where you pretend you were joking in order to avoid embarrassment.

Bypassing, how? What is the "intended" way of doing invites then?

Presumably by only inviting people you know. If others want to invite random people it doesn't bother me. But if they trace 100 invites to a single account with a foreign sounding name and linked to a foreign IP address it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they shut it down.

Looks like they've started allowing registrations again:

According to babelfish it says:
"Announcement of resumption of newly registered 2008/12/12
From December 1, the user / access due to the rapid increase in the system of infrastructure due to the enormous impact that the new user registration, which had been suspended, but resumed from today to register new users to inform you."

I don't really want to bump a dead thread but this isn't really worthy of a new thread.

When listing the source on pixiv uploads, just link straight to the actual image rather than replacing it with the /member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id= link. Albert has coded it into the api so the source relinks to that page so there is no longer any benefit to swapping the source to that page. I've fixed all the old images that were still up that were linking to this page, but there's still around 7 pages (down from 34) of images that can't be fixed.

With the api coding to do the redirect automagically all swapping the source does is break the artist auto-id and make it impossible to search for an artist using source:*pixiv.net/img/[account name] syntax as well as make it impossible to ID an artist once an image has gone down. There's also the case of human error where if you swap in the wrong url we either get the wrong image or an "image was either deleted or a non-existant ID" message as was the case with post #404236

I've sent a number of PMs to people on this lately but it's impossible to police it well. I still think it'd be good if something were coded in to flat out reject uploads from the wrong URLs and give a quick message about how to do it right.

To me the part that sucks the worst about it is there's a few tagged with an artist but nobody ever bothered to actually fill out the artist form so there's no reliable way to locate works they have done since.
