Im trying to upload an image and keep getting an error message "This page has been removed because of a takedown request." How is that possible, when I just uploaded the image?

It means that you uploaded an artwork from an artist who requested their works not to be uploaded to Danbooru. Posts by such artists don't show up, and only show that message.
Ah I see. Thank you!
Yeah, checked their artist page and their works are all gone I got so confused.

also just had this happen
so to add on to this, what happens to the post limit slot / does it count against deletion ratio?
The post goes into queue, for the approvers to decide like any other posts. It takes up one slot, and isn't functionally any different from a normal post sent to queue. Except, you know, you can't see it.

thanks
given that, is there any possibility of it being approved or is it likely cooked and will just have to wait the 3 days

Depends entirely on the image in question, like any other posts. As approvers can see the images in question specifically for upkeep purposes, hopefully the image in question is good enough to get approved.
Basically, you are about as screwed as you are normally with the queue.

it was definitely a high quality image (pixiv 137736014 for the curious, it's sfw)
if I'm interpreting things correctly, it looks like it did get approved, but it's still hidden from the general userbase because of the takedown request; that was the source of my confusion
thanks for the answers

No worries! Looks like that's what happened here. Now you know for next time.

There's currently no warning that an artist is banned until after the image is posted. Shouldn't there be?
Eh; it prevents anyone else from uploading the image, just as OP experienced. The wording could be a little better maybe but the current text also works better from a legal perspective.
Also maybe not worth investing in as only new posts get banned, not new artists, so it would only apply to existing banned artists.

The easy tell isn't there anymore. There should be a userscript to fill the gap.
There is a userscript that shows strikethrough for banned artist tags: forum #370967.
I think that's enough.
That happens to be the one I was thinking of but I forgot where it was. I sort of just baked checking the tag itself into my workflow or memorising if an artist is banned or not. Of course, sans official art where the artist isn't revealed until the embargo is over if it's not an in-house work.
