The acronym doesn't really register in autocomplete

That's because the actual shortcut is /aotrov. You have to type the first letter of every word separated by underscores (discounting qualifiers).

Not that I think this BUR helps at all in finding South Vietnamese military posts. You're better off aliasing South Vietnamese Army to army_of_the_republic_of_vietnam than these official acronyms.
