Another shot at this after topic #25376.
Alien is yet another absurdly broad concept that doesn't let you find anything. Aliens can look like anything, so using it as a tag in a visual-based site is effectively canon/lore tagging.
Some types of alien have their own tags, like grey alien or little green men, and I seriously doubt anyone is searching those alongside xenomorphs or Starfire.

Terribly broad tag, we should be making more specific race tags.

Even alien (stereotype) would be better than the current tag.

On this topic, we might need an ultra_(species) tag because not all ultra_series posts include Ultras.

Edit: Oh nevermind we have the giant_of_light tag. It's currently reserved for unnamed Ultra characters. In case this deprecation is approved, we may need to discuss expanding the application of this tag.

There's the classic green/grey alien, yes. But not having those and someones weird tentacled humanoid alien under the same tag is stupid. You should be able to find both little green men and post #9742175, post #9716368 and post #2120795 under alien instead having to search 257 differen't specific tags for aliens with slight visual differences that aren't grey/green midgets. If anything I'd suggest having a tag for classic aliens then imply that to alien and garden how the tag is currently used. We probably shouldn't have things like steven universe gems in there. The wiki also specifies

Don't use this tag for alien characters who look indistinguishable from humans. Tag what you see, not what you know.

So hagoromo_lala is definetly a mistag.

Edit: Quite a lot of the current results are some flavor of ultraman who looks indistingushable from a guy in a suit. We can debate wether or not the alien tag should be there.

You're playing with fire with how you're wielding that statement in the wiki. The user who added the original version of that clause, BCI_Temp, only removed it from two posts, post #478210 and post #1087627, which should be our exemplars - the Saiyans and Zentradi literally look the same as humans, so they shouldn't have the tag (so you'd be correct in Hagoromo Lala not counting, and we could assume Lum may not count).

However, that in turn doesn't apply to figures such as the Ultras, the Steven Universe Gems, and even one of your positive examples in Mantis (Marvel), because no one would think they are indistinguishable from humans. If we're removing the Ultras, then we're seriously calling into question whether humanoid aliens of the "rubber-forehead" kind are allowed in it, when such aliens are among the most popular in the tag: we're talking your T'au, your Togruta and Twi'lek, your Asari, your Klingon, these are equally as questionable if we're talking the others.

I'm not that familiar with the ultra franchise so I think there might be some missunderstanding here if I worded it poorly. The ultra character I was referring to is the guy in the full body suit with no exposed skin, indistingushable from a human. Posts of him showing green skin or posts with some other alien from that franchise that does look non human should get the tag. Same with sayans they look too human too. (Not freeza). For clarification I don't mean that steven universe gems look indistinguishable from humans just that they shouldn't have the alien tag.

The full body suit is the alien. Again, if post #9832991 isn't fine, neither is post #9742175, because meta-wise one is someone in a full body suit and the other is just a human with antennae prosthetics and pointy ear coverings on it, but in-franchise one is a naked multicolored alien and the other is a pink-skinned alien humanoid with antennae. If post #9742175 is fine, per your saying that one should be able to find it with little green men, so should post #9832991 be fine.

All of this arguing is just further convincing me the tag should just be deprecated. Traditional depictions of aliens should just get their own tags (which we already got like with grey alien).

even if alien itself is vague alien antennae lets me finds lots of images with similar antennae and alien monster is a quick way to find alien-looking monsters.

this tag on the other hand is fucking terrible. my classic aliens are all green. never heard of a grey alien. please change this to alien with big head or alien mummy or something that doesn't sound like alien grey_skin

also to prove my point from before i can search for alien green_skin and then find these

this one has antennae but w/e

yeah 99% of the posts aren't what i wanted but without an alien tag i'd have to search through green skin to find this and that would be just impossible

Just chiming in to say they are literally called "Greys" yes this is stupid when they are often green. "Little Green Men" are also a thing but they don't have the same bald-big black eye look. The ones in your post are modeled after Greys
