"Takamachi_Family" tag

Posted under General

I've noticed that there are images of Nanoha, Fate, and Vivio marked with the tag "Takamachi_Family". Seems to me that the tag shouldn't be there as Fate isn't apart of the Takamachi family and you can get most of the same results by inputting "Fate_Testarossa" and "Takamachi_Nanoha".

I didn't want to do anything rash by deleting the tags myself so maybe somebody who is more familiar with the rules or with more authority could make a judgment.

It's nanoha/fate/vivio images as a family, I don't really have an opinion on what should be done with it currently but it can't really be replicated through a search.

Perhaps some other type of tag should be proposed. Like adding the "family" and "yuri" tags to those images. I don't like the Takamachi_family tag because the Takamachi family is Nanoha's parents, siblings and Vivio, who she adopted. Ironically enough, the image with Nanoha's family doesn't have a Takamachi_family" tag.

The idea is that the tag isn't of the biological Takamachi family, but that of an ad hoc mother, father, and child consisting of the three.

I never followed the series myself so I don't have any strong opinion, but I don't see why this is neccessarily a bad tag. Are Nanoha's parents major enough characters to warrant using a specific tag to group them?

I agree that relationship tags are generally bad, and I was pretty sure that this group wasn't canon.

I was thinking of it more along the lines of an artists' meme along the lines of seikan_hikou or caramelldansen though restricted to that series. Artists' memes are generally good candidates for tags.

Again though, I'm not super familiar with the series, so I'll defer judgment to someone else.

This tag doesn't bother me, but then allowing it could be taken as precedent for tagging scores of fan-made groupings, a practice we haven't really gotten into before. At least not for a group as small as three characters.

Blaaah. If we're going to kill it as redundant/unnecessary then it would make sense to do it sooner rather than later, since it's still small.

Well, yes (I saw StrikerS), but what I was getting at is that the name "Takamachi Family" itself isn't really mentioned in the show. I'm not sure if the relationship tag for this is more justified than any number of other possible logical, but not officially named, groupings. Particularly for one this small.

Again, the tag doesn't bother me, but consistency and all that, I guess...

It's not official at all.

Is there a similar generic tag though that describes family-like settings of images that would get a similar point across? "family" would do the job, even if it slightly misses one of the criteria the tag currently describes.

Depends what "almost official" means. The grouping is very much based on real events in the show but there's nothing that makes it any more tag-worthy a concept than anything similar (nor do I consider it to hold meme status really), and "Takamachi Family" isn't something that is named as such in the show. Plus, (small to moderate spoiler I guess) Fate also has her own family, of sorts, by the end - so do we need to add a Testarossa Family tag as well?

Again, it's not a bad tag, it describes a concept of value to most Nanoha fans, but it's a tagging concept we haven't really embraced previously because it opens a big can of worms.

Do this at worst, outright nuking it isn't a very good idea because there's too many extraneous images that come up when performing a tag search for the three girls, like post #386700 and post #240887.

The thing is that this tag depends too much on the point of view of each person.
To me, the Takamachi family are Nanoha parents, brother, sister and not Vivio/Fate (even more if you count the Triangle Heart series).
Like I have said before, if nuking isn't a good option, it's better to create a pool about it.

If your complaint is chiefly due to the nomenclature, and not whether or not it is a tagable concept, maybe simply switching names is a better option? The problem with pools is that they make things harder to search for. This isn't really a subjectivity issue, since it seems most of the tagged images are sort of blatant on their focus of the group.
