ok, I tested Ubuntu, FreeBSD and Debian and all the installation guides I could find with google but they are all broken/outdated q.p

Try changing your environment from production to development in your Mongrel config and posting your error logs. I don't run Danbooru on Nginx+Mongrel though, so I can't promise I can help you.

After the 12th installation or so I got it to work with mongel_rails but since my original setup was Apache2 + FastCGI I would really like to know how one was supposed to do it..

Well, now I can test if danbooru is what I am looking for!

Install VMware/VMware Player and start the VM. Login with root and 1q2w3e4r
IP is obtained via DHCP or needs fixing with “ifconfig eth0 ipgoeshere subnetgoeshere"

Add
ipgoeshere example1.com
to your local hosts file
(C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts)
Start Notepad as Administrator or you can't save it!

surf to http://example1.com:3000/
