Special cases of print_panties

Posted under General

A while ago I noticed that moriya_suwako of touhou occasionally wears panties with a frog imprint. As a Suwako fan, I immediately felt it would be fun to tag those images with frog_panties. Then I found out that somebody had indeed used the tag, although not for Suwako. So I went on and did it.

On the other hand, I realize that frog_panties might be of little interest to anyone but a handful of Suwako fans.

Should I go back and remove the tags? If not, should there be a frog_panties > print_panties implication?

This topic is not exclusively about Suwako's underwear. I am trying to learn more about tagging funny curiosities and memes in general, and this seemed to be a good example.

You raise a pretty good question there, Kata. And coincidentally, I noticed that exact same tagging you did a little while ago, and was thinking the exact same thing, too. So I guess I'm curious about this as well.

Anyway, in my opinion, the tags should probably stay since it looks like they can garner at least a slightly fair amount of posts. Not to mention that we have strawberry panties, which seem to be in the same line as frog panties.

Regarding the implication, I think it would be fine, considering that strawberry panties has a print panties implication. Buuuuuuut, of course, as I've been told, not everything needs to be implicated (or aliased) -- especially tags with a low count -- so I'm going to lean towards the idea that it probably shouldn't have an implication just yet. And if it did, I wouldn't see any problem with that.

In summary, I think it seems like a sensible tag, and describes a distinct visual element. I would personally find it a good compromise if you continued tagging posts appropriately with frog panties, and manually added print panties to them as well, if applicable.

Everyone is free to yell at me if I'm wrong about anything, since I'm not totally sure about all of this myself.

Eh, I don't care if people make specific tags for the popular kinds that show up in a large number of situations, but please don't create dozens of 2 post tags for obscure prints. And try not to do any that are unique to a single character.

Forgot about this one. I ran across at least half a dozen non-Suwako examples before I got two in a row and decided to tag it. I meant to go through Suwako to build it up a bit, but it seems to have slipped my mind. It doesn't need an implication yet, but there's more than just the two out there.

As to the general question, there's frequently some element of a picture that calls for a limited use tag. A search or two is usually sufficient to see what terminology applies. It then falls to weather or not the element is significant enough to note, which is of course subjective. I believe there's some value to tagging distinctly unique posts with a certain level of individuality, not to mention making allowances for occasional humor. Established memes can be problematical, as they often rely on subjective interpretation to make them fit, and we're supposed to be tagging based on visual cues.
