I think mechabare is a terrible name. Why not have it just be internal parts exposed or something?
BUR #29014 has been rejected.
remove alias cybernetic_parts -> mechanical_parts
remove alias mechabare -> mechanical_parts
remove alias parts_exposed -> mechanical_parts
remove alias robotic_parts -> mechanical_parts
mass update mechanical_parts -> internal_parts_exposed
deprecate mechanical_parts
nuke mechanical_parts
create alias mechabare -> internal_parts_exposed
create alias mechanical_organs -> internal_parts_exposed
create alias cybernetic_parts -> cyborg
deprecate parts_exposed
That's a straightforward and not entirely ambiguous name. It doesn't indicate that the tag only applies to mechanical humanoids, though. But it's worth a try. Here's another version of my BUR, with internal_parts_exposed replacing mechabare.

Let me try to explain.
"internal parts exposed" isn't a good name. Just like "mechanical parts", the name doesn't make any indication that it's specifically for people. Taggers would still constantly mistag mecha and non-humanoid robots with it. It doesn't even actually indicate that it's mechanical. For all a tagger could know, it could also refer to body parts, like guro or anatomy.
Obscurity is not obfuscation. And maybe just a little bit of obfuscation is good. A mindless tagger uploading their hundredth image of a cyberpunk character, erroneously typing in "mechanical parts" just like all the other times, will hit the deprecation. Meanwhile, a thoughtful tagger who isn't familiar with mechabare will start typing mechanical, see the autocomplete "mechanical organs -> mechabare", look at the wiki, learn about it, and decide whether the post qualifies.
There are precedents. It's not like Danbooru is a stranger to using Japanese terms for things. Sure, some like megane is gone and "netori" was never used because they're literally just Japanese words and no information is lost by using English words instead. Netorare is a widely used word for the fetish. Netorase is as well, and there isn't a concise and accurate way to describe it in English. Oyakodon and shimaidon are also actually used, and we couldn't come up with better tag names that were still accurate (forum #25854). Mechabare is both an already used term, and something for which we don't have a concise and accurate English equivalent.
Conclusion: Mechabare is a good tag name. It's unambiguous in its meaning, it's short and concise, it's obscure enough that it's unlikely to be mistagged, but with an alias or two it's discoverable. I'm clearly not the only one who thinks it's a good idea, judging by the votes on BUR #27117. Sure, it's not perfect, and you may not be personally familiar with it or know how to pronounce it, but it's by far the best option we have.
"internal parts exposed" is way too ambiguous. If we must use a full English name, something like mechanical organs or the previously suggested exposed mechanical parts would be better.
I'm in agreement with @Aqros161 in forum #295177, though. We have seen from experience that any room for interpretation all but guarantees mistags. It would take a long and clunky name to properly express the definition we want in common English (and I do believe a tag with this definition is worth having). Using mechabare avoids people copying the tag from the sidebar or autocomplete without understanding it.
if mechabare is truly unacceptable, I think mechanical organs has the next best chance of avoiding mistags. It would at least connote the "humanoid" and "internal" aspects of the concept to most people, and it should be obvious it doesn't apply to simple seam lines. It still has the problem however that some things we want tagged don't resemble biological organs.

remove alias cybernetic_parts -> mechanical_parts
remove alias parts_exposed -> mechanical_parts
remove alias robotic_parts -> mechanical_parts
create alias mechanical_parts -> mechabare
remove alias mechanical_parts -> mechabare
create alias mechanical_organs -> mechabare
Rewriting the BUR so that it actually works.
This makes me wonder if there would be any utility in having mechanical parts be the umbrella tag for cyborgs, androids and in general characters with any mechanical part. These tags at the moment are pretty bad, everyone has their own definition and they're applied inconsistently. There's been some discussion about what to do with them in the past (topic #21125) but nothing came out of it.

In any case, mechabare needs a lot of cleanup now because it's been polluted with random mechanical legs & co in the time since it was renamed.
