Alias teal_hair to aqua_hair Reasons: Aqua has more They look pretty much the same
Though tbh, teal is actually supposed to be a bit darker than what we're calling aqua on this site, but appearly people don't realise that...perhaps combing picks 1 by 1 would be more effective/accurate.. TRUE teal: post #477867, post #389824 Then again I also see teal among the aqua_hair posts
On a side note I also saw lavender_hair and was thinking to alias that to purple but I guess either whoever tagged it or I don't know what lavender is (probably not the latter). I'm seeing a lot of blue_hair instead Overall, I guess people don't know their colors too well.. o_o
This alias is probably for the best, as I think for simplicity's sake, all blue-green colors should go under aqua here.
As far as misuse of lavender goes, Wikipedia does seem to state currently (if that is to be trusted):
lavender may also be used in general to apply to a wide range of pale, light, medium, or grayish violet colors, as well as some pale or light pinkish, magenta, or purple colors as well as some pale or light blueish-indigo colors.
That's just to say it could be used somewhat generally, though. Looking through the tag, it does seem like a few are too blue to be considered "lavender" IMO.

That's what I was thinking, which made me question my knowledge of what lavender is, though still that was just a side note and this is about Teal->Aqua

Yeah colorblind males, which Danbooru seems to be full of. I've seen HOT PINK hair tagged as red hair a lot as an example. I may have started the lavender hair tags but it was only to distinguish Reisen Udongein Inaba, Nagato Yuki and Soma Peries, especially Soma as she doesn't have purple or silver hair but actually lavender.

Hmm, I've always thought of Udonge as having purple hair, lol.
Maybe every hair colour wiki should link to an example post for each shade that is considered to go under that tag. That would give you a canonical list of posts to compare a picture to to find out whether it falls under the given colour, and to look at to determine whether there is overlap between two hair tags.

It really depends on the artist. Some pictures show her with really purple hair that couldn't possibly be lavender, like post #526349, some give her more pinkish hair (post #524773), some give her dark pink/reddish hair (post #523467), and some are more lavender (post #522812). Yuki is a similar situation: she sometimes gets her hair colored blue (post #526598), sometimes purple (post #510889), sometimes gray/silver (post #513626), sometimes reddish brown (post #511940).
If we implement a lavender hair tag, we'd have to go through all the purple_hair posts to determine which ones are actually lavender and re-tag them. IMO it's simpler to just have the purple_hair tag.
This topic seems to have become Tag Discussion: Lavender Hair xD Well if you guys can make a good decision about it too while we're fixing teal hair when that's cool Oops I used 2 smileys in 1 post, my bad, edited one out :o
Edit bump, teal->aqua alias still needed and it looks like most people agree (though the conversation branched off into lavender, idk about that <_<)

Only one person actually directly addressed teal/aqua in their reply, so it's not a roaring endorsement yet. Though I don't have a problem with it in principle.
The intentions of the aqua_hair tag is to cover all blue-green colors. Having derivatives would just open the door for too many other unnecessary colors.
Going by wikipedia it'd be "cyan," as it says it can be used for any color in the blue-green spectrum, but frankly I feel that aqua is a much more recognizable name than cyan for blue-green.
I think we honestly covered all the real bases with the current hair color tags. Hell there was talk previously of wanting to reduce them by some.

Hair color really is a vague area in general.
Everyone got carried away about lavender <_<

We're using aqua on danbooru as a cross between green and blue. That aqua/cyan is a cross between green and blue closer to blue, where teal is closer to green, yet they're still both between green and blue, like EB and NWF said.
Off topic: As for lanvender, looking at the wikipedia link unicogirl posted, lavender appears to actually be a color modifier. For example, light red, dark green, but instead there's lavender magenta, lavender pink, and a few others. It doesn't seem to have it's own color that's "LAVENDER" though.
Aqua is fine for using on hair that is not quite green, not quite blue. People still might try to tag it teal so I think the teal_hair to aqua_hair alias is a good idea. Or aliasing aqua to teal would be fine, too. Just as long as we don't have both aqua hair and teal hair tags.
I agree with this. Although there are visual differences between teal and aqua, most people aren't going to be able to discern the two (or even care to) and it'll just end up causing too much of an overlap area.
On a related note... grey_hair is also pretty useless, as there's no real visible difference between it and silver_hair. Going by Wikipedia's RGB values, there's even less of a difference between the two than there is between aqua and teal. Way too much of an overlap there to warrant different tags, IMO.
Lets forget about grey_hair and silver_hair... I'd rather consider that that problem doesn't exist and not mess with it, or at least put that as a matter for another day.
