What are hidden comments/votes?

Posted under General

The comment index displays only the last five comments on each pic and hides the earlier ones. The favorite list displays only the last five users to favorite an image and hides the earlier ones. There are no hidden votes. Or rather, there are no public votes, it's all secret.

Actually, that's not entirely what I meant (though it does seem to answer the hidden comment question, since those seem to be new). On the comment list, a picture sometimes says something like 'Score 11 (vote up/down) (4 hidden)'. It's very, very rare, and I was unable to find an example, so maybe it was removed when the hidden comments were added?

Though by 5, I suppose you mean 6.

That text referred to the comments that were hidden. There have always been hidden comments (comments that were not displayed on the comments listing page, but only appeared on the page of the post itself, because there were "too many" comments). The new feature is that clicking "x comments hidden" will actually load those comments into the current page, instead of linking you to the post page. The text also changed from "x hidden" to "x comments hidden" to clarify that it was comments being hidden. At least, IIRC.

That makes sense, though I've seen it on my own uploads (which don't go through the queue), so maybe it's another aspect of moderation?

That information is only available in the mod queue.

Akari, as others have said anything you see about "hidden" favorites or comments is just a way of avoiding clutter by only displaying the most recent 'x' entries of something, and clicking will get you the whole list. It has nothing to do with moderation.
