Post #1 vandals and the API

Posted under General

For quite a while I’ve been wondering what’s up with the endless stream of tag vandals on post #1, often resetting the tags to just kousaka_tamaki and sometimes replacing all tags with one completely unrelated tag. After none of the previous vandals ever replied to my messages, Shinjidude made me realize that that’s exactly what the PUT examples in the API documentation do, so all those users just ran one of the examples or simply changed the tag but not the post ID.

I took the liberty to change the examples to use post #846599 and its lone non-automatic tag corrupted_image instead. As it’s a deleted garbage post, nobody cares if its tags get changed to something else and anyone running the example as is will actually fix the tags.

This is just FYI so that nobody wonders what’s up with the seemingly random post ID in the examples and changes it back to 1.

Thank you and Shinjidude for figuring this out.

It always seemed like the tag vandals were just testing scripts, not to cause a mess.

Hopefully, your change will prevent any further tag replacements to the first post of Danbooru.

Time to wait and see if post #846599 will be the new recipient of the tender ministrations of API experimenters.
