Pokemon SwSh Female Protag's Outerwear

I figure I should bring this up now while Pokemon SwSh posts are still manageable.

Currently, the tagging for the Female Protagonist's grey outerwear is getting labeled with a random assortment of tags: jacket, coat, sweater, cardigan, etc. It's all over the place. I'm pretty sure it's a cardigan, since it buttons up in front and it has sweater sleeves. I propose moving it to cardigan unless someone is familiar with a more appropriate tag.

Agreed with tagging cardigan. It's an unusual one, with toggles and a hood, but the cable knitting and ribbed cuffs are enough to rule out coat and jacket in my mind.

There is, by the way, a hooded cardigan tag, though at the moment it has only 16 posts.

I don't think it's a hood. I took a look at the trailer again, and the "hood" is way too small to fit over her head. Did some research into women's fashion, and it looks more like a half-cowl design.

Don't know if it's worth looking into a cowl-neck tag for these shirts and sweaters, but with the tags we have on-hand, I think just cardigan would be most appropriate.

So since it was recently mass-changed I wanted to ask, is she wearing a sweater or a cardigan? Most of the posts were tagged with both grey sweater and cardigan which I thought are mutually exclusive since cardigan doesn't imply sweater?

Aren't cardigans openable and sweaters aren't? Should be enough to distinct these two then.

That's what I thought which made these mass-updates confusing to me, maybe they didn't know about the grey cardigan tag?

I actually was just tag gardening here. I agree that it's a cardigan, but that cardigans are also a type of sweater that has the ability to open in the front.

I also want to point out that she canonically is wearing a button-up pink dress rather than a pink shirt plus pink skirt as was previously noted in the wiki. I've mostly cleaned this up aside from where artistic license gave her a shirt and skirt, or changed the color to clearly be red, etc.

EDIT: I didn't know about the grey cardigan tag. Has the cardigan vs sweater thing been discussed in the past? Dictionary.com and Wikipedia both describe cardigans as sweaters.

It's come up before in topic #15672 in the context of whether grey cardigan and grey sweater should be separate tags. None of the color cardigan tags imply cardigan because this question is still unresolved.

In that case, I'd sort of lean towards implicating cardigan to sweater and using color_sweater tags for both. It mirrors what we did with the color_legwear tags. That is unless there is a significant reason to keep them separate. In my mind and experience, like I mentioned above, a cardigan is a type of sweater and there is no reason a sweater can't be openable (it just makes it into a cardigan).

Well they function very differently for one, having cardigans filling up the sweater tag wouldn't be a good thing imo. There's also the cardigan vest and sweater vest tags to consider which would also have to be implicated to sweater (and used with colour_sweater tags) in that case which feels even more wrong.

I don't entirely disagree, but the same arguments were made in the case of *_legwear. For now I'll go back and replace the Swsw protag's tags to align with cardigan alone and grey_cardigan, until and unless policy changes there.
