Changing artist names

Posted under General

Hello.
I wanted to ask what happened to artist aliases requests and changing artist names singlehandedly.
Noticed that this was done with Ototsu Kei and probably some more and this artist has more than 100 posts on Danbooru.
I also noticed that their prior artist tag isn't listed under "Other Names" in the artist's wiki.

So I want to know if we should still create artist alias requests @NWF_Renim @Type-kun @Hillside_Moose
For me, it is pretty annoying since I'm used to another artist name and without an alias I have to do some digging in order to find the artist again. Meaning i can't find the artist anymore when searching with Marimo Kei which was the prior artist tag.

This is something that really irritates me. I have hundreds of artist tags in my saved searches. Every few months I have to go through every single one to find which ones have been broken by people moving tags manually. Sometimes the only way I can even find the new tag is to search for the old tag on Gelbooru/Sankaku and do reverse image searches to find a Danbooru post with the new name.

I appreciate that people do this because aliases can take a long time to be approved, but frankly for simple artist renames it shouldn't take that long.

Because that is simply not how you read their name. So, no reason to make an alias. I request aliases when the artist has changed their name, or something similar (ambiguous name reading and the like). An update would perhaps be more fitting, sure, and it'll probably be healthier for anyone who keeps those kinds of searches saved, but frankly the expedition process takes so ridiculously long I'd rather finish it and get it over with.

Lazy? Perhaps. But whoever decided to somehow read their name as "Marimo" needs to get their head checked because that's simply never been the case. As someone who can read Japanese, it annoys me when someone decides to take a wild shot in the dark regarding how to read an artist's name and nobody decides to fix it early on. Name changes I get, but this, no.

Link to further my point

EDIT: Further on that point, do you really have to keep pinging the mods on every opportunity you have? Is this nearly that important, or is it because they're the only ones that can handle the sort of affairs that happen in topic #7713?

Mass updates or artist aliases are fine by me, but these should be registered somewhere in the forums where you expect these renamings to happen.
I see that the process with artist aliases and mass update is pretty much slow, but it would be really appreciative when the tag change could by found somewhere in the forums as well and that's also a matter of seconds only.

And yes, it is important because we tag artists and we should keep transparency on it what happens and why something happens.

I wish it were that easy. I wish it were a matter of seconds. But there's no place to mention any of this, it simply gets buried in the topic and forgotten for months on end even after the change long has happened and the alias is no longer needed.

I think this could get mentioned in a new topic and if we ping @evazion for it then this topic can be implemented here: topic #8235.
But I guess one could also wait a bit. I recall @Type-kun (sorry for the 2nd ping) saying that a major issue with approving BURs was fixed or is going to get fixed soon. I prefer this kind of transparency over the correct spelling even when it takes a bit longer, actually.
